Ha. Conflict already. I say we use whatever tuning the winning rhythm track is in.

One thing though, I'm going to be gone for 2 weeks without being able to play guitar, 1 week at a time and I don't know when so I'll have to see what I can do.

i could play guitar. um i havent read the thread, because i spent hours reading the RipDime thread, and it turned out to be a waste of time.
i like DGCF....et c.
i also have the software to put it together. I use vegas, if anyone cares. i guess that means put me down for mixing too.
can anyone here do mastering?
if its gonna be aby good, then whoevers doing the drums has to have the gear, and some recording knowledge. its fine just to put guitars down using a webcam mike and windows media player, cause we can fix that, but the drums have to be done properly.
and the vocals, but that takes less gear.

i just had a thought,
theres a hell of a lot riding on the first track, in this case the rythem guitar.
any breaks, fills, arrangement, relies on the first track having it.
what if someone comes up with mindblowingly excellent riffs, but has no idea about arrangement whatsoever? could we pick the track based on material and then make the winner re-record it for arrangement purposes? or choose sub-standard material because the arrangement resembles a song?
obviously there are a lot of restrictions.

Hey,
Just read this thread. I play guitar fairly well, and would like to participate in the contribution of this. I have a good enough knowledge about recording just not good enough equipment. My sound card only gives me 16-bit quality on recording. Lemme know... Thanks!

Thanks Amon rA. I talked with Tulvox about it and heres what we came up with. Everything is still gonna go as planned, but, after all the winners are picked, they can all talk with each other, in their own thread maybe, and decide some stuff to improve on the song. Say someone wants one riff to be repeated longer to add a solo, they can talk about it and re-record the song. But, we urge the guitarist to try their best to limit the amount of editing...
Anyone interested in mixing, PM Tulvox

by the way, my recording capabilitys are only an MP3 player but it records in WAV files so youll be able to mix it...
EDIT: i just had this cool idea, maybe instead of having the 1 rythm track, we could have like, a big evil metal symphony... like one riff in E another in D and we could piece it all toghether and make a big melodic song... it probably wont happen but its just an idea...

No that won't work. It's going to be a long process as it is. We can only hope for cooperation and partcipation.

Nice idea, but no. What happens is, starting July 1st, the rhythm guitarist have 2 weeks to come up with a song, record it, and find a site that will host it. (or send it to me or The Execrator and we'll do that for you.) We then cast a poll and decide the winner. Then the drummers would go and so on. Once we have all the winners, we will allow them to go back and fine tune the song and do any last minute editing. All the tracks get mixed, and the metaltabs band has made a single.

More then one band would mean we could all vote for the different songs and so have our very own 'metal chart' exclusively of metal tab bands. Instead of buying the single it would be all done on votes and then that band is number one for that week etc. Would make it competitive and so should mean the music gets better and betters as time goes on
What do you think?

i love that idea, but im a competative bastard. most people i know wont play any games with me at all.
but lets do this first. set the standard. and i know i could n't write a new song every week. ive gotta save some creativity for the real world
edited to make sense

Not to be a prick, but I don't see you trying to organize this. Just this one song is going to take over 2 months. You have to give the contestants time to be creative and record. Then you have to get every riff hosted somewhere. Then you have to cast a poll. Rinse and repeat. When all is done, you have to mix it all into one track and probably have to rerecord and mix again.
The biggest flaw with your idea - You're not accounting for how long it takes for one song to be created.

well what if we did it monthly? or bi-monthly? it would work and i think it would be worth it, fun and good practice for people just starting to write... *cough, myself, cough*

Or you could just write some riffs for the contest
Once this first song is done, we'll see where it goes from there.

It's a contest. We let Metaltabs.com vote the winners. We build the track as we go. Once the rhythm guitar is chosen, the drummer records his piece to go with the rhythm we vote again. And so on.

I don't see how that makes you a prick because i organised nothing. Well i misinterpreted how long the process would take and i agree it would take that long to get everything sorted especially with people in the band being in different parts of the world etc. I apologise

You can sign me up for guitar. My mic is really cheap, but i´ll do my best to get a good sound.
I have some expierence with death and black metal, along with heavy metal.
I could also be able to pull some punk stuff and progressive metal. I´m a really big fan of Dream Theater. I also study classical music and guitar, so if the song will have and acoustic part, i could help to make it.

I support the idea of posting the stuff in guitar pro. I use that program and it´s really good. The only problem will be posting the drums since it would be a really long bitch to tab that.
