Kerry King... ...vs Jimi Hendrix?
ok heres the situation. last night two of my friends were having a row over who was the better guitarist, jimi hendrix or kerry king. to be fair they're from different genre's, but if you look at it from a general point of view, who would you agree with? I set up this poll to find out:

Based on skill, innovation and emotion, Jimi wins this hands down.

Kerry King is all about improvisation. He also uses the whammy bar way to much. Jimi on the other hand, is a fucking guitar legend. Overrated maybe, but still a legend.

I still don't know why people think Kerry is one off the best guitarist, really he is fucking great, but if you see the dvd 'still raining', most solo's are done by Hanneman... So I think Hanneman is even better than Kerry. Ain't he?
Also, Jimi was better than Kerry

I don't like Kerry's mess of notes. His solo's are just noise.

As far as Kerry vs Jimmy?
I think it's a non question....it's like what is better, day or night?
Both are nice for diff reasons.

I agree totally - I've never seen the appeal in Clapton's leads, they simply bore me to tears. Somebody should've told him that the blues is supposed to be played with emotion, which does not immediately equate to playing slowly.

hendrix is extremely overrated. he's the #1 guitar player on any list you can find.. and my friend thinks he's god for playing the star spangled banner with his teeth... but then again he also says kerry king is the best metal guitar player and his reason for saying that is, and i quote.. "he's so good cause he's a fucking tank and his guitar is so small.."
i personally dont like hendrix's music, but i think he's a better player then king. but i like king better
EDIT: as for clapton, i never heard much of his music until my grandfather got the crossroads guitar fest DVD for his birthday, and i watched it and i like clapton.. i dont think he's the greatest player ever but i really liked what he played.
EDIT 2: yea this thread is gay (even tho i made some gay threads myself)

what kind of stupid question is that? come on everyone know jimi would win, cuz kerry king just sucks hands down. u should have a question with 2 guitarists of the same time period like jimi hendrix vs.jimmy page now that's a good question
or kirk hammett vs. alex skolnick. its a start of somthing nice though.
a very good battle would be yngwie malmsteen vs. his clone joe stump.

I would start a thread called:
Kerry King... ...vs Mozart, but I would more then likely get suspended again
I like them both but King is still alive so I can enjoy him more right now.

It's so obvious, isn't it? I mean, obviously Hendrix doesn't even compare to guys like Hobbs, Azagthoth, and Suicmez and all these fucking tech freaks we have today. For his day, though, he was the best. If it weren't for him, music might not have progressed to the point where the music of guys like Suicmez were made possible.

I dont see whats the big deal about kerry king, Hes fast, but i could be fast too if i just moshed my fingers down and flapped my hand around wildy on the fretboard in a drunken torrent of barely audible sound bursts.
Herman Li is faster, more technical and he plays in a band about pretty dragons that never give up hope!!! Alright, You can flame/suspend me now if you want.

Perhaps not at the same rate...but eventually it surely would have.
It's like whoever invented the wheel....well, lets imagine he never existed...someone was bound to eventually.
I'll STFU now as I'm being contrary for no reason other than I'm bored.

What kind of effects were there in the day?
I'm guessing it was 100% tube amps?

his favorite? a white fender strat. reversed, he had a righthanded but he was lefty so he changed the strings and the strap etc. he loved the controls on top! look:
http://www.temple.edu/history/images/hendrix.jpg
it's actually quite clever, if you look at his tremolo use on that pic right there!
The guy had 13 strats with him on tour, all black or white, with maple fretboards. (only 6 are still known to be around!!)
fx? I think he mainly used some wah and other normal shit, all analog ofcourse, they didn't have POD rack gear back then
Amps, I think he used Marshall super leads and Fender somethings, old mofo's. nothing too special. though he also had a deal with Sunn at some point.

same with you and your dildo, see you know it's bad for your anus but you still overuse the damn thing. Hendrix might have known it wasn't the usual way to use it that much but he just loved it so much he just had to do it. Same with your and that dildo, you get the idea?

Im just saying... under his overly massive use of Wah there was some greta guitar.. he just wrecked it.
He liked his Wah too much for his own good.

I think the wah is cool w/ certain techniques and if you use it at like low volumes. If you blast it up so much that your sound is nothing but wah, then you sound like Kirk Hammett.

I argued with myself for a while whether or not I should close this thread. I wanted to on the basis of off the charts fagitude, but I've allowed more fudgepacking threads to prosper. Then I figured, "don't worry about it, by the time Jim sees this my conundrum will be solved."
So what's the point of my telling y'all this? I'll tell you. This finally proves, once and for all, that I have psychic powers. Sucka.
