I use a 2mm pick, and I've been able to pull off some crazy pinch harmonics recently just by letting less of the pick protrude from my finger. I love it!
However, once I learn 6-string sweeps(can only manage 3-string downstroke sweeps right now), that will be my favourite technique.

Pinch harmonics on lower strings, heavy palm muting, and fast tremolo riffs. Slow sweeps (like little acoustic songs) are fun too.

Tattered, I believe that legato is the style of making more notes without actually continously picking, A la Hammerons, PullOffs, and slides i think. Hope i helped.

Legato is a really simple technique. its just using hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, and other things that you dont really have to pick. you usually pick very little when playing legato. heres an example:
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------4p3p2p1---------------------------
------------------1h2h3h4----------4p3p2p1------------------
----------1/2/3/4----------------------------4\3\2\1----------
-1h2h3h4--------------------------------------------4p3p2p1-

randy rhoads is the king of legato, he will trill on a single string changing the trill shapes like 4 times and only pick once to start the trill. Like on the crazy train solo and a lot of licks on crazy train, pure legato. check out the tab sometime, do play guitar to? or do you like to pinch harmonic on bass haha, never seen/heard that done.

the trills in crazy train are so clean and perfect.. I like using legato in sweeping because you couild in retrospect, make like 24 notes in one down motion. Sweep picking the chromatic. I cant tap for shit though..

My favorite technique is placing my left hand fingers on different frets on the fretboard, and then picking with my right hand. It sounds AWESOME!!!
You guys should try it sometime.

I love sweeping! And I love to pinch harmonics and follow it up immediately with a whammy squiggle/dive. Also palm muted tremelo picking and palm muted power chords \m/

been focusing so much on getting sweep picking up to speed that i have completely lost the technique to pinch harmonic......but found a nice way to bend natural harmonics in the process
