Got a couple of examples of some songs i have been having trouble with the fingering (ill try explain best i can)

This is from the 2nd solo in Black Rose Immortal by Opeth.
Ill put what fingers I use to play the notes above them, (i couldnt label the top line, but you can get the idea ) - I(index) M(middle) R(ring) P(pinky) Please tell me if my fingering is correct. Or if there is an easier way.

Im having trouble getting up to speed at this piece, just a few questions about it.
Firstly, at the moment i alt. pick every note except the 19p15 at the top, should i be using more hammers/pulls? Will I still have to pick each note on every string change?
And my fingers get a bit tied up on the ascend and descend. after i pick each note on a string change, I release the note, otherwise the notes sustain and sound shit - Am i doing that right?

And how do you play something like this?

At the moment I finger each note by alternating fingers, for example index, middle, index, middle, and this is really fuckin hard to do fast lol. I'v tried it by barring the fret and playing notes but they sustain and sound shit.
Any other ways of playing that sorta thing?

For the first one you don't seem to be using your pinky. Try to do it like this:
Play the first note of a string w/index
Second note w/ring finger
Third w/ pinky. Do that strictly, and you should have no problem once you get the alt. picking right. Just remember, 1 finger per fret.....
Oh, and to to that other thing, you have to barre, but have a rolling motion, as if you were sweeping, so that the notes don't sustain. I can't actually do that, but I know what to do, at least!

Yeah, for the second one, you must do it like a sweep, by kind of doing a rolling motion with your finger. It takes practice and is frustrating at first but just work with it. When you get frustrated, practice something else and come back to it later.

its also better to make sure u lock ur wrist. thats wut i learned when watching all the pros do it, they keep their wrists locked when sweep picking

Yeah, listen to this. USE YOUR PINKY. At first, it is probably your weakest finger, but when you start practicing with it, you'll be able to use it quickly for hammer offs/pulloffs easily.

Just had a bit of a shred playin it that way, and I can play it a hell of a lot faster already.

Been practising my sweeping and its slowly advancing, i've pretty much only been working at the following -

This is the first half of the sweep in the 2nd solo from Opeth - The Funeral Portrait.

Im having trouble with the first upstroke,

Fingers used are labeled - I-ndex M-iddle and R-ing.
I've been doing that "rolled bar" technique over the three 14's, but when i go to bar the 14th fret, it hammers on the note played on the 13.
So it sounds like -
e|12-I
B|--13h14-R
G|--------14-R
D|----------14-R
A|------------14-R

If i'm playing it slowly, i can manage the bar by only barring with the end 3rd of my ring finger.
But at speed I cant seem to do it and it just hammers the 13th fret on the B string. And even if i mute the 13, it still makes a hammer-on sound when i bar.

Are there any tricks to bar 3 strings of a fret, without barring the strings above it?

im not very good at sweep picking, or those arpeggio shapes. the only shape i can do is:

Do you find it hard barring the 14th then the 12th frets?
Or is it just a case of that practise thing

it could be the practice thing, but im the type that likes to do every seperate note rather than just have my fingers already on it? does that make ne sense.

that is how you are supposed to sweep pick. You don't fret the note until it needs to be played. As soon as it is played you release the finger. barring is a bitch though
