The Truth About Emo
Nothing pisses me off more than seeing bands like the Used or Atreyu called "emo." True emo is derived from hardcore, and screamo draws a lot of influence from, of all things, grind.
NOT EMO:
Atreyu (metalcore)
My Chemical Romance (pop-punk)
the Used (pop-punk)
Fall Out Boy (pop-punk)
Eighteen Visions (used to be chaotic metalcore, now hard rock)
Avenged Sevenfold (metalcore, then NWOAHM, now power metal[?])
Thrice (melodic hardcore)
True Emocore:
Saetia
City of Caterpillar
Rites of Spring
True Screamo:
Circle Takes the Square
Kaospilot
Pg.99
I Would Set Myself on Fire for You
There is also a genre called "emo-violence" which mixes the emotion and metaphor of screamo with the music of power-violence (i.e., Spazz, Charles Bronson).
Emo-Violence:
combatwoundedveteran
Usurp Synapse
There, now stop calling shitty pop-punk "emo"

Get outta here man, nothing "pisses me off" more than seeing guys like you. It doesn't matter what genre it is, all those styles fucking suck.

What time is it? Hammer Time! Trash the newb!
Really, dude. We know this. But frankly, while all of those bands you listed may not be strictly "emo", they certainly suck big gay balls. So unless you've got something to say about metal, do the metaltabs community a favor and fuck off.
Don't let the door hit your arrogant teen angst ass on the way out.

have you heard combatwoundedvetern? or Circle Takes the Square? and yet you say that they suck because they're emo, which proves my point.
plus, CTTS list Carcass and a number of black metal bands as major influences

my point exactly; real emo, and especially screamo, has roots in grindcore and power-violence, and since when is grindcore not metal?

Which only proves that good can indeed be used for evil. I don't care if Nsync listen to Cryptopsy before a show. Bands who suck to me, shall always suck regardless of what kind of crowd they think they're in.
And you better watch your step. If you fling one of your bitchy, whiny shit patties at a mod or long-time respected memeber, you're out of here. I've seen so many newbs like you crack under the awesome power of the gods of metaltabs. Take our insults like a man get the hell out you fucker. We don't give a shit about emo or any of it's poser friends.

Dude, don't even relate any of those styles with grindcore. Man, am I in a mood for arguing for some reason. What the hell is "power-violence"?

i'm not trying to be disrespectful, i save that for mallcore kids who think songs about girlfriends and slitting wrists is so emo, but my question remains unanswered, as to whether or not anyone has even HEARD any of the bands i listed (the real emo ones, not the pansy-ass fake ones)

Maybe someone could enlighten me on this, how would you define hardcore? I was talking to this guy and he said "dude you like death metal!! You must like hardcore!!". I've never really listened to hardcore, so I couldn't really say yes or no. Oh and give some links to some free mp3's for "good" hardcore bands.
Yes bitches, I've turned this into my own topic!

*sigh* okay. I, for one have heard a few. They seem like pop punk bitches to me, though. And for most metalheads, "pop punk bitches" and "emo fuckers" go under the same category. So yes, some of us have heard them. Just like I've heard the sound of an obese man taking a shit in a metal pan. But that doesn't mean I'll sit there and take it.

Thanks for hi-jacking. This thread was just going to be another bash-the-newb-thread.
The only SEMI-good hardcore band I've ever known is Hatebreed. They're alright. And I'm not talking about hardcore punk. That's totally different. But hardcore is like...well...I think some people consider Killswicth Engage hardcore. So, anywho. Check Hatebreed and Killswicth Engage out. That's all I know. (being advice from an ignorant guy who sticks to his comfort zone of mostly death)

Well, you've enlightened me, sir. I agree now that there is a large difference between emo and pop-punk. Emo sucks and pop-punk blows.
Welcome to metaltabs. You've survived your first beating. There will be many more to follow.

You want to argue music semantics? Alright I'll argue with you. Shut The Fuck Up. There. Arguement over. Go die. Find a nice cliff to fall off of. Hell, if you need help, I'll be there to give you a push in the right direction. Nobody here gives two shits about emo or screamo or what ever kind of faggot-o's you can think of. It's all whiny, annoying, poppy, angsty, or all of the above. Mostly all of the above. Now go find said cliff and don't come back.

Fucking hell, what do you mean "Where's a mod when you need one?" - I was watching! You think this isn't funny?
To Mr. "I Live to Argue Musical Semantics"...
I could explain very carefully to you the differences between the Charlie Parker Pershing Club sets and a few years later with Gil Evans or maybe Stan Kenton. I'm not going to.
Why?
Because this is METALTABS, you socket-wrench. No-one cares about Emo and its secret tr00 kvlt nature and now everyone hates you.
