cab setup

Can i safely connect 2 cabinets (2x12 and 4x12) of different impedances (8 and 16om respectively) to my amp, or do i have to use either the two 8ohm outputs, or the 16s?

Cheers

Its my Marshall 1936 2x12 (8ohms mono, 16 stereo), and a Laney GS412PA 4x12 (16ohm) (when i get it in a couple of weeks), with my Laney VH100R head

The 4x12 would be enough, but it seems a shame not to use the marshall cab, and then i can have a 3/4 stack

if the amp has an 8 ohm output, it is electronically safe... but i still dont think i would trust it.

GENERAL RULE: lower impedance feeding higher impedance = ok

The only way he can get 8 ohms is by using just one speaker in the 2x12 cab. Then you would have one speaker taking half of the output power and it would really suck.

Lower impedance feeding higher impedance is only OK with solid state amps. Not OK with tube amps.

Yea, i wanted to use both speakers if any... a half stack will do me just fine though
