Ibanez rg1570 + new pickup question + Line6 Podxt live or Boss Gt-8
Hail! My first post, have some basic questions. By the way, all you tabbers out there kick ass, this site rules!!!
A little about me real quick. Right now I play a stock Ibanez rg1570 /w prestige wizard neck + stock dimarzio v7 (neck) \\ v8 (bridge) \\ s1 (single coil) pickups on the thing, its a 2003 model guitar I believe. I play it all through a Crate gtx212 120W + Boss MT-2. I listen to shit like deeds of flesh, death, necrophagist, psycroptic, etc.. I want to go for a sound that will fucking punch you in the cranium when I start strumming, and bruise your brain.
Okay, first off, in the way of technical issues, im looking at changing my pickups in about 2 weeks. Now, I went to my local music store and they carry every pickup possible, so my selection is not limited. (They have all major brands + a few others). I first started off by asking an employee that I wanted to add pickups onto my guitar, and I showed it to him. Before he said anything he said since my pickups were passive or active (i cant remember which he said), he said I couldnt replace just 1, I had to replace all 3 in unison because of the wiring scheme or something. What the fuck? Is this true? I dont want that piece of shit crap wylde emg set he said i should get. I wasnt sure if he was bullshitting me or not, but I left like 5 minutes later.
What I want is a Bridge Pickup like a Dimarzio X2N (or what anyone suggests, i love chuck schuldiner) where I can play a good bit of my riffs in pure downtuned distortion. If I need to solo, than I just want to cut into a pickup that features pure, incredibly crisp, shrill solo with more mid than low. Would the Super 2 / X2N Combo be a good choice for this. One in neck, other in bridge. If I do 1 in bridge and neck, and I leave my single coil stock, what would single coil be good for... Clean sounds?
Is all of this possible, or will I need to resort to something else?
Also, If anyone has any suggestions for pickups / positions, or think I might be heading down the wrong path, let me know.
Also, I plan on getting a Marshall double stack in the future, but I want to know who would choose which guitar effects processor. Line6 PodXt Live or Boss GT-8
Msg me on AIM (cbern86) if you can provide a lot more insight to me. Im kinda confused but I got about 4,000$ saved and I'm ready to get all this stuff done.

first of all, that guy was bull shitting, you can mix actives with passives, its just a bit more complicated but not rocket science either.
second of all, what do you want for your effects processor? do you want amp modeling or effects. if you want amp modeling then the line 6 pod xt is the one to go for, if you want effects then go for the boss gt-8.
i personally think if you want to spend as little as possible, you should ditch the mt-2 and use the pod xt for distortion instead, its pretty fucking heavy.
if your willing to spend a lot then i say you should blast all $4,000 on a proper amp set up, like a good cab and head and rack shit aswell
o yea, i think this should be in the gear forum

the X2N is definetely worth getting for the bridge , as for the neck and middle pickups, get a dimarzio paf pro for neck and a seymour duncan little 59

mordor what if i went with a DiMarzio Blue velvet in the Single Coil Position instead of the Duncan lil' 59? you think thats an equal adjustment? Lookin for a clean single coil...
Instead of the PAF Pro im lookin at a DiMarzio Super 2 for its properties.

The blue velvet is supposed to bea good single coil allthough it probably willbe better suited to clean stuff rather than overdrive, the other pickup chocies seem cool..
