baritone 7
would a baritone 7-string be tuned any differently than a normal 7-string?

You can use it to get a tighter normal B-Tuning with slicker strings or tighter with lower tunings.

Damn good question. I assume they do because of this thread, yet I'm confused as why they would.
To answer the question, it would only be tuned differently if you wanted it to. A baritone guitar is a guitar built for the purpose of low tunings (such as B or A). If there were a 7-string baritone, I would assume -- just as a normal baritone -- it was built to drop a few steps below normal. This would cause your lowest string to be...well, too fucking low. So again, I can't see how or why they would exist. But if they do, you may tune it how you like. Baritones are built, mainly, just to handle tunings below the average drop-tune.

You'd be able to get tunings like F#, F and G with a baritone 7 string... i think you may start to have problems with the sound then because it may be too low for the EQ to work properly... would be quite nice through a bass amp probably

Damnit baritones aren't only made for low tunings, you can tune a baritone to standard its just that you need to/can use thinner strings with better tightness. A 25.5 scale 7-strings be needs a thicker B string to feel tight whereas a say 27 scale doesnt need as thick string to have the same tightness. The the thinner string might be more comfortable to play on and the overall sound might sound "tighter" too. I think tight is the word.
And just as you say lower tunings would work better on a longer scale but its not everything there is to a baritone. You get a larger space between your frets and that might help people that have big hands playing more comfortable.

The longer scale of baritones also makes your playing sound more articulate, or "tight" as Slabbefusk was saying. 7 String baritones do exists, but the people who use them range in the musical spectrum of course. Fuck, meshuggah uses 8 string baritones!! The scale is either a 27 or 28 inch scale on that.

They have used 8 strings but alot of their stuff was written/recorded with 7 string Ibanez guitars, the UV models I think.
