Which would you pick and why? I want one of them, but I really can't decide which one to pick... I haven't had a chance to compare them directly, and I've only scarcely played the Triple XXX... I love the ballsyness of the 6505+ but it ain't as versatile as the Triple XXX... I didn't have a chance to mess around as much as I would've liked with the distortion on Triple XXX, so my question is: Does it have as much balls and gain as the 6505+, which in the end, is the thing that is most important to me!?

My triple XXX has ' Balls '...

my comparison:
xxx = cleans, crunch, high gain

jsx = cleans, crunch, and high gain, with some tone in the mix.

5150/6505 = tone

The XXX is way more versatile then the 5150/6505.. but the 5150/6505 kicks the XXX's ass when it comes to gain and "balls" it has the lovely midrange grind that its known for.. your not going to get that with a XXX.

which one would be best for scooped mids? ya ino you should do it becuase it sounds like crud on stage, but i still like my distortion like that...well i do like slipknot

Just get a MT-2 and some shitty solid state combo..

No need to get a real amp if your going to deny it of its true tone.

o rite, ok, no worries, i guess im not gonna get a straight answer

as much as it might seem like we're just picking on you for scooping your mids... we are being straight with you.

midrange is the guitars strongest frequency. amps are designed around it.

turn them up a little bit, you might be suprised... i'm not exactly dimimg mine or anything. on the splawn they're at 4-5, on the mig they're about 3-5(depending volume) enough to cut and have some sort of tone. but still give some aggressive bite to the chugs and let the lows shine through.

of course in a band situation, you'll realise real quick that your mid knob is your friend. as the bass, toms and kickdrum take up all the lows, and the cybals will wash away everything else. it's your only chance to survive in the mix.

on recordings, it's easier to get away with, because it can be mastered out evenly and volume is under alot more control.

Here, I'll give you an "educated" response. If you want that sound, get a LATE model Marshall Valvestate, or a Warp 7...the local nu-metal bands around here that play them seem to get the tone your looking for...if I we're you I'd really try to expand my horizons....but if that's what you like there is no point in going for any of the Peaveys you listed, and you'll save money!!

I personally like the XXX more. I've never been that big of a 5150 fan. Too much of that hardcore type distortion, kinda fizzy. I mean, its a good amp, just not my cup of tea. If I had the money, I'd probably have a XXX right now. But then again, if I had the money, then I'd try to get a good rack system going.

I know but I was curious how the combo sounded compared to the head.

Ive played or owned the xxx , jsx and 5150 6550, personally I like the JSX better , it has the xxx gain and is more versatile in my opinion, I didnt like 5150 or 6550s too muddy for my taste ,
So if it were me Id stick with the XXX or JSX.
