MUDVAYNE: Metal or not?
Im in a dispute with a friend, he says mudvayne is heavy metal even though it clearly isnt. So after a loooong time of arguing i decided to let you guys, at the MetalTabs fourm tell us what you think.

Welcome and no they are not metal. At least not completely. They have metal qualities but are no more metal then System of a Down.

They aren't metal. Their first CD hinted at it, but the face -paint and nu-metal grandeur of it all just killed em' dead in the water....IMO of course

First of all these guys are really good, I give them props for the double bass, slappin' bass, Jazzy interludes, Rock influence, melody and brutal guitars.. These guys are very experimental like Opeth but better. I wouldn't consider them metal, I would place them in the Progressive Metal genre because they change style from song to song but have alot of hint of metal influence in their material..
Songs to check out: Not Falling, Determined, Dig, and Death Blooms.

They are indeed of metal background, yet I doubt they are very widely accepted here (certifiably numetal). So I'd recommend them on your "bands I like but don't mention at metaltabs.com" list.

And about that Opeth comment, its so true... their stuff is too mellow and boring. But Im not saying Mudvayne sound like Opeth if thats what ur thinking, but Im just saying they like to trade styles and shit.
