That first article's surprisingly superficial. Saying that 'schools are tailored for girls' is a profoundly meaningless statement unless you include 'because all actions in the past thirty years have totally ignored the needs of any alternate sex.' Before that, boys did very well in school, and it's unlikely the 'genetic blueprint' miraculously changed while the school systems stayed exactly the same. Anyway, considering our regulars this shouldn't be a shock.
The second article disgusts me. I'm almost offended. I can't remember the last time I felt offended.

There's a fantastic poem by Seamus Heaney - I forget the title - but it describes growing up on a farm in Ireland. In it he describes the drowning of kittens, "Scraggy wee shits" as he refers to them, as a means of pest control. It's a fantastic poem, as is most of Heaney's work. There must be a link between this paragraph and the last but I can't quite put my finger on it...

You must be joking. You've seen equally realistic organic prosthetics in a Cronenberg film, without him feeling the need to go blurry on any detailed shot of surgery. It's certainly possible that it's real, but the level of craft needed to fake this is not particularly high, especially considering the pans to nowhere and the poor focus on all closeups, and the light problems that occur as organs are taken out. I also have to wonder why something obviously filmed with a handicam and looking to be on video is in black and white. And how they manage to capture the same event from two different angles, both of which should catch the other camera, without the other camera appearing. This reeks of fake to me. Pretty good fake, and definitely interestingly conceived (aside from the humanoid appearance of the aliens), but nobody needs this much cinematic fakery to film something actually happening. Just people relying on what we've accepted as standards for 'reality' when it comes to something filmed.
I'm surprised, though, that you're skeptical elsewhere and then swallow this so easily.
