i played one of these yesterday, and it fucking killed, i was just curious, what kind of tubes are in there, and what other amps can get a comparable sound for maybe a little cheaper

oh, and the preamp has Groove Tubes GT-12AX7-Cs. Theres also a GT-12AX7-C in the power amp section.

man, i musta got shitted on my bv.
the cleans are great and it gets the best blues tone but i cant get any drive worth useing without driving the tubes really hard.i know i know you have to but im talkin volume up to 9 out of ten. thats way to loud for just saturation. i should get some power dist. out of lesser volumes. even the cranked one doesnt soun that good.
i ws messing with it the other day with my wah and i mess with a bunch of settings an put the pedal all the way down( this is all on clean setting) and hit a really low power chord and the power tubes broke up sooo sweetely. it was awsome. wouldtnnt sustain though...

crates come with groovetubes all around..

i'd say blue voodoos are comparable in sound to the marshal dsl's, but they're a bit darker.

you're not going to find a "good" tube head cheaper than a used blue voodoo.

The BV I demoed got good breakup and I didnt push the volume past 4.
BVs are awesome bang for your buck amps, you can grab a head for only $350 on ebay, grab a marshall 1960 cab for $400 and you have a versatile little half stack for only $750.

One question though, the Crate BV is adjustable bias right?

already tried that, well only power tubes but, its cool.
went to gc today they only had the xxx, out of the ones im lokin at. it was like 647 or sumthin used. not bad. id buy it. not while im in virginia though. the bv they had there killed. damn it was awsome! wayyyy better than mine.
i gotta sell my shit so i can get new stuff soon! its probly gonna be peaveys (xxx, jsx, ultra)
ok new question.
jsx is definite if i can get it for under 700 shipped(fat chance). the only major difference between he ultra and xxx is bias and another eq. im pretty sure i can get the ultra for about 200 cheaper. are those features worth it? for instance, theres a xxx half stack for 1000 buy it now, but i dont think that cab is that great. i can afford the ultra with a vin 300 4x12 avatar.cant afford xxx with the avatar. anyone in a virginia gc today? i swear i recognized some one from a pic on here.

oh yeah, i played a gibson super gold tone amp today. sounded pretty damn good!! it was 800 for the head but i know a guy that my dads in a band with that will sell me the combo (a 10 and a 12, odd) for probly cheaper. what do you guys think?

I really didn't like this amp, same goes for the 300. it just didn't do it for me, it seemed like it didn't have enough definition and it just didn't sound agressive enough for me. I guess it's pretty much on the same level as the jcm2000's, 5150's and shit, but I'de much rather get a 5150.

the bv60's are pretty neat though, just because you can crank those fuckers and that makes them sound decent, the cleans are nothing to write home about but the distortion sounds pretty good, I'de rather get the 60w then the 120 or 300. to me it just sounded better, even when it wasn't cranked.

I liked this amp alot, I tried the black one. When I first tried it w/ a Gibson LP custom, it was the best tone I had ever played with. The second time when I played it with cheaper guitars like a Jackson DXMG, it wasn't as good. Cleans are nice and smooth.

the new vesions are completely different circutry than the old versions.

the newer ones are the 300w one, the 150w one, and then they just made the new 120w one.

the old ones came in 120w, and 60w models, and the slightly rare 50w shorthead model. aswell as 60w 1x12 and 2x12 combos.

i personally preffer the old ones in tone...

i was in a band with a kid that had the old 120w, he made it sound great... and i even barrowed it later on when i was temporarily without an amp. about a dozen practices and a show, it preformed just fine. the cleans are about average for a decent "non-botique" high gain tube head.. and the distortion was more than "good enough". and for the prices the old ones are at in the used market, you can't complain.
