I think I own Herzeleid. I haven't listened to it in years, because it eats a moderate quantity of infected anus.
Why do people bother with this band?

I like them for the same reason anyone else does: I don't know why.
Some songs piss me off because the guitar parts are too high and match up with that gay synth-work. Yet in general, I enjoy the band (and at times, their synth/keyboard parts as well). Although I don't like that alot of their lyrics have to do with sex, I can still listen to them and find it satisfying.
Herzeleid may indeed be their heaviest. There's some pretty good songs on there. I also believe Mutter (although a bit more experimental and less straight metal than Herzeleid) is quite fine work.
Something about them is just...good. I don't know. I guess it's the "atmosphere" that the music creates. |

i really like em, herzeleid is their best for me, just because i like the stacato stuff more. Reise, reise is really great with mid-tempo heavy rock songs. nothing wrong with it.
as for the dvd's, you should get both. Live aus Berlin is by far the best concert registration ever, tremendous act, show, sound (especially with 5.1).
Lichtspielhaus contains all video's, some interviews, and a lot of old school concert vid's. You can see that they use home-made fireworks and make a lot of mistakes and such.
I'm gonna see them for the sixth time is 2 weeks, hell yeah!

I, personally, take it as a mockery of America. Especially in the form of their music video. I think they were just tired of hearing so much about America being the greatest (which is what most Americans say, being complete dumbasses as usual  ) and America sticking its stupid, fat, arrogant ass into everything around the world. So I took it as a somewhat subliminal (yet not really hard-to-get) mockery of our land.
EDIT: In no way do I want this thread to turn into an "america does or doesn't suck" thread just because I bashed the US. Stay on topic, folks.
Of course, I'm talking to only the majority of metaltabbers. TheDoctor, Def, and FarBeyondSane can say whatever they want. Just please don't brake my balls, fellas.

I have to stroll down memory lane here, but I think what ruined Rammstein for me was my German girlfriend. She translated some of the lyrics and explained why so many German people thought the music was swill. I think I saw her point - suffice to say, when you can't understand what they're saying, it makes the music a lot less grating.
Anyway, if I really need Teutonic techno strangeness, I can always listen to those 90's Samael albums that no-one else likes.
