Jazz vs. Classical vs. Metal lessons
howzit again lads, I am going to get theory lessons for free from my mom's friend, and then i can get lessons either from a brilliant jazz dude or a guy into his 80's metal: ac dc and all that shit, he's good at lead though. Or should i go for classical? I want to study music after school, prob. have to be jazz guitar.. So what do you think?

I put my name down at a music shop last year because I said that I may
be interested in some Jazz lessons. I don't know shit about jazz though but it may open up some things. I haven't had a call yet. There are no jazz teachers around here.
As for metal lessons, I haven't heard of anyone offering lessons as a teacher yet either.
I still playing the waiting game I suppose. Advice wise, take the lessons that are harder to find; ie: jazz. I would think that classical teachers are more common than jazz teachers.

I'd go with the jazz lessons. Just for the fact that jazz's style is so uncommon to metal, and it would kick ass to bind the gap between em. Now classical is a whole other topic. I love classical, and layering classical licks over a metal feel rules! Take the classical lesson as well~! I think the jazz will help open up new doors to your playing. Hell, ... I don't know shit about jazz, but I'm marking it now to plan to learn some of the techniques, chords, progressions. good luck

jazz lessons may be farther away from your playing style, but in the end it'll make you the better player I guess.

I have studied Jazz now since three years and I must say that it is the best thing you can do as a guitar player.... my playing improved drastically and my composing is now on a high standard!

I'd go for the classical lessons as there are more applications in metal than jazz.
