Anyone Know any good bass solos that they can share with us bassists here?
NOTE: Excluding Anesthesia by Metallica and N.I.B by Black Sabbath
(but feel free to comment on them)
Thanks.

Maybe Siege - Armageddon...
Look for terrorcore (2 bassist+1 drummer lineup hardcore) bands BTW. Most of em has really cool bass solos.

I think it´s hard to find many bass-solos in metal bands, it´s easier in Funk or Jazz.
But i would go definately for the bass solo of John Myung in Metropolis pt. I. If it comes to solos i recommoned always DT.

I think i´ve got a song from him. Í like it. It´s o CD that was for free in a magatine from the label "Favored nations". It´s the Lbel of Steve Vai, i think. There´s even Billy Sheehan, Mathais IA Eklundh, Steve Lukather and many more great guitarista and bassists. Try to get this CD for free. But there´s lots of Jazz.

Metallica Call of the kutulu (its hard to hear but its there), damage inc. (the intro), my friend of misery, for whom the bell tolls, and their live shit binge and purge CD.
Anything by Primus
Panteras bass is almost like solos, check out the backing for Floods and 5 min. alone.
Sepultura the third track of the beneth the remains album at the end of the song.
Mad capusual marked, their song tribe has a high pitch bass solo (doesn't sound like bass though)
Thats all I can think of right now.
I think for bass solos u need to go for live CD's and find their solos, thats when they really shine.

Rage Against The Machine's Calm Like A Bomb has a cool bass solo at the start of it
it dosen't take all to long to learn either, I've only been playing bass for about a month or two and I can play it pretty decently (after a few screw ups anyway)...

but that one sounded talentless - compared to the anesthesia (pulling teeth) solo.

I use a Boss V-wah and a Boss ODB3 bass distortion
rage against the machine HAS got some talented stuff on the old selftitled cd.. it's all pretty funky so fun to play.

ALL of Beneath the Remains. Also good Sepultura: Schitzophrenia and Arise.
Primus is great. 5 min alone is fun to play, some parts are so simple and others take practice.
I can play the first half of Anestesia (Pulling Teeth) but it sounds extremely funny because I dont have any way to add distortion, and I dont have a wah pedal or anything to make effects.
I can't believe nobody mentionned "Got The Time" by Anthrax. I love that solo, I can play it, except for the part where he does 5 consecutive slides quickly, i'm no good at slides. Otherwise it's pretty easy, just fast, well the slap part where he hammers the note is pretty hard, but I can do it pretty decent.

Well i got into that song before i had a pedal to make it sound distorted, i just fiddled with my amp to give it a good fuzz sound, and it works, so just try that.
or just get a pedal!

maybe I wasn't reading hard enough and missed it, but have you heard the bass solo on "Tommy The Cat" by Primus? I found a live version of that on Napster, back it the day, and it totally blew me away. Brilliant finger picked tremelo and such.

Yes, Les Claypool is great. But i doubt it´s a bass-solo. It sounds like, but normally solos for us are just bass-riffs for him. Hope you know, what i mean.

I'm going for it.
it's not a real technical solo, but you've heard that, the impressive thing of it is that it is bloody fast!
that's the difficult thing....
compared to stu hamm and shit technically it ain't shit, but the speed...
I think it's do-able
I got the song from kazaa
Im looking at the tabs now. and it looks more simple then it sounds!!!!

N.I.B. doesnt' stand for Nativity in Black, it actually stood for "nit-like beard." (the I is supposed to be a lowercase L)
The bass solo has it's own title, Bassically is the name of it, and it sounds like slap in parts because Geezer hits the strings so damn hard with his fingers.

Listen to Victor Wooten and you'll see, that no one can play a good guitar-solo.
It's harder on the bass!
Just noticed how you wright this smilie: . Never used it before. Now i know what "Beheaded" (yes, the great DM-band) means.

a bass solo
In "Kings Of Metal" by Manowar 4th song is The Sting Of Bumblebee. This is a version of a classic song (for piano I think) and is played by Joey DeMaio (bass player) but Joey DeMaio have a 6 strings of 24 fert so he can play the high notes of this song.

There's an easy way to keep people from being mad at you. Think about what you post. If you think there's a way someone might be offended by what you say, or it's degrading to a personal level, don't post it, or else you'll be subject to having your posts/threads deleted, and receiving serious reprimand by me.

that actually sounded pretty scary
but he's right, think about the stuff you post, or get your ass flamed, the bass forum rules and we want to keep it that way.
if you don't well that's fine to but be prepared to have a boot stuck up your ass.

yeah, did you know Ra/tM's 'Calm Like A Bomb' has a kickass bass intro/solo thingy?
it's pretty sweet and it's really not that hard, it's all in the upper 4 frets,
Intro/Solo
G :----0-2---------|----0-0-------|----------------|--------------|
D :2-4-----4-2-0-|2-4------2-0-|----2-4-0-----|--0-2--2----|
A :----------------|-------------4-|0-4-------4-2-|4--------4-2-1-|
E :----------------|----------------|----------------|----------------|
G :----------------|----------------|----0-2---------|----0---0-----|
D :----------0----|2---0---4-0-2-|2-4----4-2-0-|2-4-------2-0-|
A :------2----2-4-|--4------------|----------------|--------------4-|
E :--2-------------|----------------|----------------|----------------|
G :-----|
D :-----|
A :--0--|
E :-----|
that's about it but the spacings are a bit weird.

Yeah, I remember playing that...
Rage had a lot of sweet basslines, whether they followed the guitar patterns or went on their own.

You should look out for the bass-book by Josquin des Prés. He transcribed J.S. Bach (yes, THE Johan Sebastian Bach) for Bassguitar. It sounds simple and boring, the same I thought, but after studying for hours and hours and hours, it came to me as genius! It gives easy walking on the bass and some finger-breaking moves also. If you want to play bass-solos, you should have this one in your collection!!! Want more info? Mail me......

An 8-string is nothing special.
It's like these 12-string acoustic-guitars.
You have for each string an additional ocatve string.

That's one crazy bass!!!!
There's a bend in the fretboard! It's seems not totally horizontal! I don't know how the strings will ring on this!
Or it's just because of the strangr arrangement of the frets.
BTW the fretboard is much to big.
And again a new Dutch!!!! You can tell what you wnat. Your plan is to conquer the world via metaltabs.com!!!

Who constantly plays open E and it's octave?
Also I find that although Ellefson kicked ass on the first four albums, there isn't as much good stuff after Rust In Peace. Not to say there aren't good bass lines, just not as many, since in lots of songs he keeps doing constant eigth notes or sixteenth or whatever you want to call them, depending on your tempo. I'd would have liked to hear more bass fills like the ones in 'Take no Prisonners' on their more recent albums. I was a bit disappointed with him. What do you think?
And by the way, welcome to the forum, we can always use more Deth fans.
Oh, and sorry for going off topic.

These aren't really metal, more fusion/prog-rock than anything but it's what I have.
Stanley Clarke - School Days - School Days [The reason why we play the bass like we do]
Jonas Hellborg - Personae - Rag B B [7 minute solo of goodness]
Jonas Hellborg - ? - Little Wing [The timeless Hendrix classic on the bass]
Michael Manring - Thonk - Distrubed [It's like Primus ... only harder]
Brand X - Unorthodox Behaviour - Nuclear Meltdown [Possibly the coolest fretless bass riff I have ever heard]
Marcus Miller - M² - Power [High energy slap-bass song]
Marcus Miller - ? - Voodoo Chile [The timeless Hendrix classic on the bass]
Ozric Tentacles - Erpland - Erpland [Coolest Rock-Bass line I have heard]
Basically anything by:
Stanley Clarke/Return To Forever
John Patitucci/Elektric Band/Michael Brecker/etc
Victor Wooten/Béla Fleck & The Flecktones
Jaco Pastorius/Pat Metheny/Weather Report/Joni Mitchell/etc
Alain Caron/Uzeb
Michael Manring/something in your CD collection
There are more, just too lazy to think of them/type them out.
edit:
If you are really ambitious, check out Billy Sheehan - The Talas Years - 7718 (3a17). Quite possibly the fastest bass song ever, all tapping of course.
