I think God Hates Us All is a lot worse than Diabolus.

For me.....anything by Anthrax,I've tried to like this band but they just annoy me for some reason.

Yea Anthrax isn't for everybody, its real upbeat and happy. I like Spreading the Disease best because its most Thrash imo, but anyways, everyone should like Among The Living.

Annihilator - All For You. Fruity, irritating, ballad-influenced fagthrash. I can think of plenty of thrash CDs which are average, but no other single CD which makes me more cranky.

Metallica are geniuses. They began playing shitty numetal so all of those numetal fuckers would fall into their faggot trap. Then, those numetal kids would say, "Hey, this shit rocks! Let's check out their older material." (assuming "material" is not too large of a word for their vocabulary). Then, once getting into the semi-older shit of the black album, they'll head off to the early ones (kill em all, ride the lightning, master of puppets). That will lead them to other thrash bands such as slayer. By this time, St Anger is pussy shit to them. Next comes Pantera and the heavier heavy metallers. And before long, they've got Cryptopsy blasting through their speakers. Thus the wonderful and somewhat diabolical plan of Metallica.

Anywho, worst thrash? Possibly any Megadeth album. Then again, I don't think they're really "thrash".
(forgive me, gods of metaltabs. may my bashing of Megadeth find your mercy one more time)

I would say Countdown to Extinction was the most disappointing album ever, but not really thrash and far from the worst. As far as the first three albums go, how dare you!

As far as Diabolus in Musica is concerned, disappointing sure... worst ever? Not even close. There are far worse albums out there and Slayer doesn't even come close to being that bad. I'm sure I've never heard the worst thrash album ever and I hope I never do.

Ok that one had some really good ones and some really bad ones as well.

Either way, I don't completely blame dave for that. Cryptic Writings could have been far better as well, since we are on Megadeth albums that suck ass.

There are parts were Dave shine through the BS in those albums, However, how the hell he let something as bad as those ablums ever get made is beyond me. They have some great parts but for metal sake Megadeth has always been about thrash.

At least TSHF kicked some ass. Dave has to deal with people that want him to do what they want in the music industry, or else he doesn't get to do shit, but I do believe he knows what kinda music makes him happy and is pushing for that once agian.

First of all, the way you mentioned is how a shitload of people get into metal. I pretty much went through that whole phase, except I never heard anything past the black album. I heard the black album then worked my way back. Then started listening to the Big 4 and now I listen to a lot of Kreator. In fact I didn't listen to St. Anger for until a month or so ago. I held out listening to it because everyone said "yeah it's new metallica and is sucks" and I never had my own opinion on it. So I listened to it just so that I could have my own opinion on it.

And second of all, does Megadeth count as thrash? Isn't it classified as speed metal? Anyway I enjoyed Rust In Piece a lot.

As for worst thrash album, I've heard the more recent Anthrax albums are crappy, although their older stuff is very good. I can't comment on it myself because I haven't heard it. Death Angel - Frolic Through the Park was really boring IMO. I can't mention any more because I haven't come across too many bad ones. Probably because I listen to a lot of mainstream metal.

I like a lot of the earlier Anthrax albums, although I can't listen to ALL the songs on each of those early albums. There are some shit songs, there are some good. If you listen to Deathrider and don't like it, you are mad. That song is the epitomy of thrash.

Fistful of Metal was total crap, but Spreading The Disease was pretty sweet and Among the Living was way different from that and also pretty sweet. After that it was pretty much a blur of mediocrity. S.O.D. rules!

Should be called Recognize No Talent or Tune. The guitarist was one Ross Robinson who later produced Korn!
Any albums by Re-Animator.
And Metallica with ovaries in the form of a band called Wench. Can't remember the name of their one and only album I was just a horny teen at the time!!!!

Wrong. Megadeth has always been about Dave's feelings of inadequacy after being booted out of Metallica. In other terms, about Dave's attempts at outdoing Metallica. Therefore, if Metallica goes to total shit, Megadeth is required to attempt to outdo them in being total shit.

None of that's meant to run down Megadeth; I like 'em as much as anyone sane. But it's pretty clear that being kicked out of Metallica drove Dave for much of his career, and is probably the explanation for why they kinda fell off as soon as he could after Metallica did, or why they did their 'return to metal' album right after Metallica's, or even just why Dave's been such a belligerant asshole. Doesn't affect how much ass they kicked in their day.

So Far, So Good ... So What? is probably more disappointing for me personally than Countdown, which is actually pretty good if you can get around your expectations and the excessively clean production (though Megadeth in general's always been a little too clean for me; always robs the playing of the power it should have). I wouldn't say So Far's the worst thrash album, though. A lot of classics are about half-crap, but they're not nearly the worst either. I tend to ignore the chaff, especially in such an over-saturated genre as thrash, so I'm proud to say that I doubt I know the worst thrash album.

Kill 'em All was recorded in my hometown and therefore rules. Anyone who can get to Upstate NY should visit the studio it was recorded in like 13th century pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem.

Wait a minute, you are in Upstate NY? Where exactly is the studio it was done in??

I love So Far So Good So What, I think the songwriting on that album kicks ass. The production is indeed overdone and weak, and lacks the balls that Peace Sells had. If the production was different, that album would have been a hell of alot more popular.

Rochester. I think the studio's mentioned by name in the Kill 'em All liner notes. I can't remember if it's still functional; I only knew it was in Rochester because Metallica bought the equipment they recorded it on at a massively inflated price once they were the biggest band in the world. There's really no reason to have a studio in Upstate, though; even Cannibal Corpse left to record.

I don't live there anymore, though I'll be back for September.

There are some all right/pretty good songs (Set the World Afire, In My Darkest Hour) on So Far, So Good, one great one (Hook in Mouth), and some very focused crap (the unnecessary Anarchy in the U.K. cover, 502). The production's not really much of a problem for me, since I can't name a Megadeth record whose production I liked. In general it's not a record I listen to much, even when I'm on Megadeth kicks.

I remember an interview at the time Kill 'em All came out where Lars talked of the studio being haunted! Some phantom spirit kept playing his drums or something. There's no truth in the rumour that this ghostly apparition could keep better time than him

I love the way these thrash metal threads always deteriorate in to Megadeth/Metallica slag fests

yeah, i saw a sale on ebay for some of lars cymbals from that recording area. that was a few years ago, but he refused to go upstairs to record drum tracks alone. they let the place by candle for fun i think

I also love So Far, So Good... So What! It loses out in direct comparison with Peace Sells because it isn't nearly as bass heavy as it's rival (strong bass presence makes me jizz in my pants, even without an erection) and because Anarchy in the UK sucks. I hate the Sex Pistols, and I Megadeth covering the Sex Pistols is even worse. I actually like Dave's covers of Alice Cooper, though.

Mary Jane and Set the World Afire are two of my favorite Megadeth songs (sure to appear on any Deth mix CDs/tapes I make), and Hook in Mouth, Liar, 502, In My Darkest Hour, and Into the Lungs of Hell all round it out very nicely. I think In My Darkest Hour was one of the first Megadeth songs I learned how to play outside of the easier stuff on Countdown.

Speaking of Countdown, I think that sometimes receives unfair criticism. It was much better than the Black album, and Megadeth never promised their fans that they would never make music videos or become more mainstream. It wasn't nearly as tech as Rust in Peace, but it wasn't dumbed down drivel either. I love the production on Countdown, and there are some days when I listen to songs like Skin o' My Teeth on a loop for hours.

Thought you guys might like the sound of that.
Not much details at the moment but they might be reforming to play a festival in Chicago at the end of the year. A producer bod by the name of Neil Kernon is helping to organize it! That's all I know, if I hear more I'll let you know

Sadus are recording a new album for late summer release. A DVD is also planned.

wouldnt it be cool if all those other thrash bands came back and started kicking ass again? and like we had a big thrash revolution and all the rappers heads blew up? well not really but its the first thing to came to my mind...

anyway, pretty much all of the thrash ive listened too has kicked ass... major ass! so after i looked over my playlist/CD collection, ive come to my verdict

DIABOLUS SUCKED HARDCORE ASS!!!!! (exept its more nu-metal half the time)

AND RISK!!!!(but its more pop influenced half the time)

what im trying to say is, if you can REALLY call it thrash, usually, it kicks serious ass... or atleast a bit...

It seems to be happening. The original Testament lineup is back together.

It DOES seem to be happening, even though they are getting older, old Thrash bands are probably dissapointed with the metal scene today, and they are getting back out there now.

Exactly what I was thinking when I seen this thread. Total faggotry.

Actually, in my opinion, thrash seems to be dying in North America. Bands are starting to slow down (in playing and recordings), have less riffs, use more chugging, and droptuning. What happened to the cool 230 bpm + riffs and drumming? Meh. I know Razor has slowed down their last recording, and I think even Hirax may have. Pfft, even Nuclear Assault detuned on their newest album, and slowed down.

I think thrash dove down real bad late 90's early 2000's (whatever age you call it) and is back up. Destruction, Death Angel, Megadeth, apparently Coroner.

But yeah, what happened to 220 bpm tremelo picking and simple, fast drumming?? I love that stuff...

That'll be as cool as buggery I hear the're taking 2 drummers out on tour as Louie Clemente hasn't played for so long he' s had to relearn the songs and by the sounds of it build up his stamina and playing! Pfft drummers eh

Thrash metal will always be with us in one form or influence. It saved the metal world from big hair cock rock in the 80's and now it's come back to save us again from teen angst/daddy doesn't love me nu metal overload! It's good to hear proper metal riffs and shredding getting noticed again!

Another thing I notice is that all the guys I knew who loved thrash back in the day still play guitar and love big fat nasty guitar riffs where as those who were into the hair rock scene now have nothing to do with music anymore! Go figure

Have Exodus got a new vocalist yet???

All this talk about thrash dying is a bit strange to me. Thrash isn't dying. Thrash has been dead since the mid 90's. Thrash evolved into death and what was left went extinct. That's pretty much how it was. There have been very few thrash bands around between the mid 90's and the present. You can rattle off a mighty impressive list of former thrash bands in an attempt to refute this, but none (or very few) of those bands were actually playing thrash past the mid 90's.
