My new toy -- BBE 482i Test (and my gear)
So i finnaly went out and got myself a sonic maximizer (BBE 482i). I made a sound clip of its beauty being worked through my randall combo for you all to hear. I play a bunch of riffs and masturbate for like 1:10 seconds and then turn on the BBE so you all can hear the differance.
BBE Test
Here is a nice pic of the BBE
BBE Pic
And just for good measure im gonna throw in the most updated pics of my rig in my newly built room.
"Recording Studio"
Rig
RR Ran
LP and Ran
Cable Collection (and other shit) everyone of those is monster except for the 21 foot whirlwind. Also sm57 and Boss tuner in there.

Thats pretty neat, i was considering getting one of the maximizers, need the money though.
When you take the Tape Out of the mixing desk into the Boss recorder, what happens there? Your recording sounds much better quality than mine ever does

It channels the signal through Heaven, or Hell if you like, and then back to the amp.

I just saw in the latest guitar world magazine, and add for a bbe sonic maximizer stomp box. would that achieve the same effect as the rack effect unit.

I would assume it'd be similar, i doubt it'd be exactly the same because:
rack gear > pedals

to be honest, i didnt hear that great of a difference on the recording. it just sounded louder. Though, I'm sure it sounds much better in real life.
How much did you pay for the sonic maximizer?

Yea its muuuch differant in real life, and yes it does make it louder on the recording as well as in real life. But in real like you can feel the chunkiness, and balls the BBE gives. The BBE was 180 plus 2 monster cables and an extended warrenty ended up being like 260 total. It was a graduation present from my mom. She got it for me before we knew that M=L's gay ass blew my whole fuckin engine up.

yes and no...
it's basically the same thing as the rack unit, but it's made to run instrument level(pedal) and not line level(most rack gear).
i find one thing that makes a sonic maximizer sound great, putting it after the gain source(fx loop).
before the preamp, yuck. and that's what the pedal is made for, being put before the amp.

Well, H8 has 2 channels in his BBE so he could run one before the preamp and then the other in the FX loop. That has got to kick a little more ass!

It adds sparkle to the signal. The signal is beefed up with, well, I don't know what, but it really does make everything just sound far better. Believe me, once you use one you will never want to play without one. Sorry if I sound vague but you have to use one in order to really know what I'm saying.

It adjusts the phase pitch of the treble and bass in your signal, makes it beefier and more clear sounding. Add's chunk, look on there website.

I got mine on ebat for $30.. then sold it for $50
The BBE was fun.., for awhile, then I turned it off and heard the most beautiful tone ever... never used it again.
The BBE is just a phase everyone goes through.. I've never seen anyone keep one.

all the dudes in the west coast death metal bands have them and they wont play without them every member of decrepit birth has one. some other bands would be severed savior, sleep terror, etc......

whoah, mike got the Engl. I thought he was still using some Boss preamp.
but yeah, I have no effects or anything going through my crate SS head, and it sounds surprisingly good.

yea, i think ill be keeping this one, i payed a lot for it new, and you can use them for anything, vocals, bass, guitars, maybe once im rich enough to afford an engl and i dont need the BBE anymore ill just use it on the bass rig, or ill just use it in recording. But for now i like it, my amp in the dry tone isnt punchy enough, but with the BBE it is.
Soul i tried your idea of putting it before the amp and in the fx loop, its amazing how when you put it before the amp it makes no sound differance compared to if you were to have it in the fx loop. xdx is right about the whole fx loop thing, it kicks way more ass than putting it before the amp.
I like my dry tone on my amp, but i like it even more with the BBE and yes my amp doesnt have much gain/punch dry, like a sound that would be good for death metal, but atleast i can gt a step closer with the bbe.

when i had the big rack.. man, that tone...
from top to bottom
furman power conditioner
rocktron hush super C
tc g major
ibanez msp 1000
bbe 462 sonic maximizer
jmp-1
peavey classic 50/50
wow... the tweaking i was doing... i used the bbe to get some really thick punchy lows and smooth highs, while i boosted the mids with the eq on the msp-1000... that was my eq, everything on the jmp-1(for my heavy distortion) was just dimed.
my old guitarist says that was the best my tone had ever been live.... but me. though it was good... i just realized i liked a raw, direct signal.
once i took everything(msp-1000,bbe,super c, g major,) out and just did the preamp+poweramp thing. holy shit... soooo much noise was gone and so much tone was restored. it was a completely different amp. less processed, more organic, nastier grit. loved it.
the sonic maximizer did exactly what i thought i wanted it to do... but in the end i figured i'm happier without it.

Me too, it is a noisy fucker as well.. if you dial in the BBE Process too much (which I LOVED to do) then you just get the worst fucking squeel ever!

I'm going to have to eventually break down and get one of those Sonic Maximizers. I'm just debating wether or not to get that before my wah pedal ... Eventually what I want is ( I already have the first two items ) :
Randall Titan head
Genz 2x12 G-Flex Cab ( modded with 400-watt Eminence Delta Pro speakers )
Sonic Maximizer
Morley Bad Horsie 2 Countour Wah
BOSS GE-7 EQ pedal ( the old blue ones! )
Digitech Whammy pedal
Holy fuck, the Genz Benz cab has a suprisingly huge sound for having two twelve inch speakers. Paired next to a Marshall 4x12, the Genz Benz sounds bigger to me than the Marshall. For 400$ brand new with Eminence Delta Pros put in, its a great value.

The one I bought is an older model, wired in stereo and not mono, like the G-Flex 2x12's they're making now. I do know that for it being an out of production model, and with the new speakers, this brand new cabinet was a steal for 400$. So I can hook up another cabinet to it, and who knows what the hell I'll add to it, maybe even a second 2x12 cab, the sky is the limit. Here's food for thought : will two 2x12 cabinets sound different compared to a single 4x12 cab? And if so, how so?

yes they'll sound different.
how so... well, just play them and you'll hear it... 4x12's have more "boom" and 2x12's have more "punch".
of course it also depends on the specific cabs you're comparing, and the speakers inside them.

Because that cab is ported and has an amazing amount of low end. Wait until you hear two GFlex 2x12 stacked on each other

might as well go play a peavey vtm ported 4x12. if you stacked a g flex 2x12 up side down ontop of one that's right side up... that's what the peavey vtm port cabs are like.
you have a port on the bottom, with two 12's above it, then a little peice of wood in between them and the other two 12's, and then a port on top.
i have two of these bad boys. one loaded with four eminence swamp thangs, the other is currently unloaded.

yes, you do need to find one... in fact, with a road trip to my place... and like $100 you can have my unloaded one.
the downside, they're very very very large, and very very very very heavy.
more so than your average 4x12. i can man handle a 1960a up several flights of stairs, but with these things i need help lifting one to stack it on the other.
but the tone is to die for.
