some info on pickups
there probaly a 100000 threads lik ethis but i made a new one cuz i think it depends a lot of personal preference and music style to see what pickup suits who... or somthing
i currently have a sd invasder (bridge) and a sd fullshred (neck)
both are muddy as FUCK, and i cant stant it anymore, so im thinking of some emg active, but wich one???
im pretty sure the 81 is the best for bridge
but how bout the neck??
ive heard 85 and 60 do well so??
does the 85 / 60 have a lot of output, cuz my sd fullshred (neck) does.
wich would be the nicest for some nice solo tones??
i solo pretymuch 99% of the time i play so thats definatly important to me
are there any NOT muddy sd pickups?? that still have a lot of outputt??
if yes wichones??
merci and sry for another thread thats gonna piss peeps off

IMO the 85 sounds better then the 60. the 85 is pretty thick and dark sounding, definetly compared to the 81. it just 'sings' more on the leads

Not like I know much about this shit, but what about SD SH-6's? I hear they're extremely versatile and have a nice sound and long sustain.

What do you expect? The Invader is pure mud.. check out a JB or Dimarzio Tone Zone.

You can wire is up to your preferred configuration, theres wiring diagrams on the net. You just get the other bits for flexibilty- imagine if you wanted 2 volumes but you only were given one

EMG are good pups. I love them, but some people ( very few ) don't. It is just a metal thing to hate stuff. Take your pick of things; a band, a type of people, EMG, whatever. You can't be metal if you don't at least hate something

i was thinking of loading some EMGs into my incoming jackson rhoads..
Unless someone has a pickup combo that will tonally compliment an EVO/X2N (well...i'm gonna get the Evolution Neck soon...) setup that's passive?

They're great pickups. I replaced my JB/59 set with an 81/85 set and I have'nt regretted it once.
I replaced Seymour Duncan passives with EMG actives, and I play it through a Randall Titan. I just noticed that I've somehow done everything BLS has advised me not to do

No, but judging the whole SD line based on the Invader is just unfair.
Im not anti-emg.. of course I prefer passive tones.. I also prefer when people actually TRY different pickups instead of just resorting to emg's as the be all end all.. which they are far from.

I dont have SD's in ANY of my guitars right now.. only EMG's and Dimarzio's.
EMG's are great for that ultra tight tone.. but that also makes them very sterile and hollow sounding IMO OF COURSE OMG OMG!!
Try some passives.. they all sound different unlike EMG's.

BLS i understand what ur saying, ive also heard before that emg's make everyguitar sound kinda the same. also I didnt judge sd becuz of the invader, cuz i read before bout other not muddy and good sd pu's.
USER1 the deal i found was in my country, so i could pick them up with no extra shipping costs etc... thnx anyway
also i just called a verry good guitarbuilder i know (he builded a few guitars for my dad) and he told me that a 81 AND a 85 together will cause volume troubles cuz the 85 has even more output, wich will result in different volumes for the different pu's
so i might just go with 2 x 81 or 2 x 85, i may go to him this weekend, and ill discus what ill take, maybe ill end up taking some sd anyway, maybe dimarcio, i dont know yet. he builds the pu's in for me for free and i can just wait for it at the shop.
anyways thanx everyone for the input

81/85 having volume troubles... what? I have wired many guitars with 81/85 and have never noticed that. The 85 does have a slightly higher output but it is not noticable one bit. Besides, I don't play with both of them wide open together anyway. I normally roll the 85 down about half way to compliment the 81 for when I what a little darker and thicker tone. Works fine for leads, cleans, and distortion sounds.

hmm oke nvm the guy sayd something lik ethat, but i guess hes talking bout minor volume changes, i mean he builds guitars everyday so he knows what hes talking bout, but maybe hes so into it that little things seem bigger.. or somthing
NVM anyway im getting my 81 and 85 tomorrow \m/

You'll love it. Tight, and the harmonics just fly out of the pickup.
