Not a bad deal. Be forewarned though, as with everything on E-bay, it is all a gamble. I got a triple rec from E-Bay (through the instrument exchange program....fuckin asshole motherfuckers....I have bullets reserved for them)

That amp is sweet....for the few minutes I enjoyed it...it has been sent to repair twice.... The first time all it did was make static (yay!!!) and the tech said it was some resistors...and one of the tubes was bad.

He replaced it with two electro harmonix tubes (matched pairs of course)and one of the tubes was bad from the get go...which the mesa DID NOT LIKE!!!!!
So I sent it back to him and he thoroughly went through the entire amp and said the tubes were just bad....ALL OF THEM!! So I am getting all new tubes from Mesa themselves, if it is still fucked up, I'll just send it to Mesa and they can play with it for a while.

So know that there is a possibility that it could have faults, or the person selling it could be an honest cat and not try and fuck you over. If you make a bid
and the odds are in your favor, you should request his phone # and give him a call, talk to him...see if he can play it over the phone for you....

Bottom line, if you really want that amp, get it. If you have doubts...you better do some soul searching first.

Quick opinion first, I think that amp is heavily overated.

Aside from that, its your choice.
I wouldn't say thats a great price for it (the Buy it now price) but I'd say its fair. I'd be curious to find out how old the tubes are and if it blows fuses regularly.
Mesa are usually reliable so the second of above won't probably an issue but if the tubes are truthfully 2 years old, you'll be looking at a further bill boosting the final cost with shipping to around $1500 or over.

As for the auction, seems like a solid seller, good feedback (read the reply's not the percentage). Go for it if you really want it but there will probably be similar deals on Mesa rec's on ebay before the months out.

No, re-read my post I stated that after shipping with new tubes, biasing etc it would probably ALL end up at $1500; head included.

nope... a triple recto has 2 more powertubes and one more recto tube. than a dual.

that and mesa tubes are overpriced...

they're just relabeled tubes from other brands anyways. the only reason you're supposed to use mesa tubes in mesa amps is because mesa's have such a narrow bias and their tubes are all picked to fit it.

you can have a trim pot installed on them and have it adjusted for whatever powertubes you want. not an expensive mod, and in the long run SOOO worth it.

from www.eurotubes.com
$130.50 for a full triple recto retube kit of jj's with 6l6's in the power section $114.00 for the same thing but with e34l's in the power section(i highly reccomend more than 6l6's)

they get rid of that flub and saggy feel that sometimes mushes up on you at high volumes... you get less lows, but it's tighter and more usable. besides, in a triple recto you have tons of low end on tap anyways. the midrange has alot more cut to it and the highs are sizzle.

i wouldnt say british sounding really, it's still a mesa... just a better mesa imo.

listen to clifton.

I don't know exactly. But I thought i always had:

4 X el34's tubes
5 X 12axy tubes
2 X 5u4 tubes.

But I don't know exactly. I never replaced them myself. Always had a friend of my to do it. But 4 of those el34's cost 95 euro's in the guitar shop.

they both use emg's... on guy has a les paul a hughes and kettner straight attax 4x12 cab and a 1960B with a jcm 900 sl-x head, the other has an ibanez s series with a crate 2x15 and a carvin 4x12 with the el34 loaded dual recto.

their tone is awesome on the recordings and live. they're coming out with a new cd shortly. i'm stoked to hear it.
