Preamp
I have been looking at preamps for the last few months and still cannot decide on what to get. I figured since most of you guys know gear maybe you could give me some suggestions. I have heard alot of good things about the Engl-e570, but I would like to hear your opinions first.
Some of the tones I dig are:
Disgorge-Infinite Parells of Torture(or whatever its called)
Decrepit Birth-...And time begins
Necrophagist-Epitaph
Spawn of Possession-Cabinet
Death-Symbolic
Martyr-Warpzone

Thanks for the info. BTW, what do you mean by the high strings being annoying? I'd like to here other suggestions besides the Engl so I can find out what else is good. Cheers

those are some pretty different tones when compared to each other
so you will need something pretty versitile
i havent played a whole lot of amps
but i would probably say your best bet is an ENGL, since they sport some of the tightest distortion there is and are very clear sounding
plus 2 of those bands you mentioned use engls, and matt from Decrepit birth is planning to save up for an e570

well im my ears the hight note sounded to sharp for me, and i couldnt get a nice setting with the eq to get rid of it, so when i started soloing it sounded more anoying than nice, and since i solo bout 99% of the time that i play guitar, well... do the math
other than that the e570 is a brutal amp, it has some insane gain level on the lead 2 channel, i found the chrome knobs anoying though, when u have a bit sweaty hands theyre hard to turn and its hard to see at wich position there set at.
but as as necro-butcher quotes its good for leads but it sucks ass for soloing, THATS MY OPINION SO DONT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT UNTIL U TRYD IT URSELF
cant give u any other recomendations cuz i dont know any other stuff from my own experience

how the HELL can you solo 99% of the time you play guitar do you only practise and play 1% riffs on your own or something?
the E530 I played and the E620 I OWNED really kicked ass for solos, though I like my Powerball and Savage a bit more... the E530 can get pretty similair tones but it's not on the same level IMO. I think the e570/580 must be able to get there since the Engl SE and Savage SE worked pretty well for me when I tested those. (shame I don't have the money for an SE, I'll stick with my current ENGL's because they're doing their job just fine!)

rule number one for smooth solo tones: CRANK THOSE FUCKIN' MIDS!!!!!!!
And use the neck pickup >_>
I say get the 530. it's a nice cheap ENGL, but same fuckin' german quality. Brutal to the absolute farthest and then some (the 570 is just...utter fucking overboard)
Make sure you get a nice tube poweramp too. The preamps sound around 7/10 in sound quality with the built in poweramps, but with outside tube poweramps, WATCH OUT!!!

im not stupid, i always play through my neck pickup (on solos that is) and i tryd a lot of settings on the preamp, and i played it through an engl poweramp, (the bigest one, dont know the name of it, the one thats 3 untis high). and i always play with lots of mids, its just my opinion on how i thought it sounded, wich was awesome xept for solos.
def.. i dont play my own stuff i basicaly just practice solos from some bands, cuz thats what i like most inplaying guitar

man id love to hear some death metal clips of the 530
im thinking it might be an idea to get a rack setup with a real nice poweramp and buy the 530, then when i get enough buy the e570

do you turn down the tone knob? i find that's a good way to take away the "ice pick to the ears" effect on really high notes.
try decreasing your highs and increasing your mids.

u never use the tone knob, since my pu's are kinda muddy, turning the toneknob makes it even worse. and i always use lots of mids and less high, so

Really? the 530? I've heard that it doesn't really put out that brutal of a tone and is better for rock and alt. type of music. I mean I could be wrong but this is what I have heard.

That sounds weird. I have always found that if you turn the tone knob up it will sound better and you use more mids than highs...dude thats kvlt black metal. Thats probably why you guitar sound horrible on the 570.

close, yes, match, no.
try to find one anyway man, it's definetly not a smart thing to buy gear without playing it... I agree on the tone knob too.

do u guys mean switch the toneknob so its sounds more bright or warmer???, cuz mine is always set to the brightest, and i hate the opther setting sound, cuz my harmonics are gone then
im thinking of geting some active emg for my jackson usa, the mudines of those invaders and fullshreds is horrible

for chording and shit, a tone knob being turned down will make it muddy, but for single high pitch notes it'll really smoothen them out a bit and take away the shrillness, sound's really fat.
so it's the kind of thing when it comes to solo time you have to switch to neck pu and roll the tone knob back abit.
