trem blocking
ok, i tried searching for this, but i couldnt find anything, if you can find anything please let me know, but in the mean time im gonna start a new topic.
ok, i just wanted to ask a few questions about trem blocking because my guitar is really pissing me off. my licenced floyd is giving me a lot of problems and my friend said that i should block my trem because i hardly even use the whammy bar and that blocking the trem should get rid of all my problems.
anyways, i just wanted to know if he was right
1.) if i put a piece of wood in the trem cavity of my guitar, blocking the trem, will i be able to change string gauges without having to adjust the springs? for example will i be able to switch between 10-46 strings and 13-56 without tightening or loosening the springs?
2.) would tuning stability increase? like would the bridge go out of tune less?
3.) would i still have to use the locking nut?
4.) if a string snapped, would it send all the others out of tune?
any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated. thank you very much!

1. if its blocked, then you dont have to fuck with the springs.
2. yeah, it would better. but a non blocked floyd is pretty good anyway.
3. you dont have to use a locking nut even if its not blocked. just for better tuning stability. I would still use it.
4. if properly blocked, it would not go out of tune.

I kinda don't get why you'd get a tremolo and block it, it defeats the purpose then doesn't it?

Most of the questions have been answered bar the 1st.
Putting just 1 piece of wood or whatever you choose to use will not fully block the system.
To block the system fully you need to insert two blocking sources on either side.
Now, you need to insert one source to the right of the tremolo block and another, longer piece between the claw hooks and tremolo block.
These need to be tight as shit in order to work properly. It has to simulate a fixed bridge so nothing can move, not even slightly.
I also recomend placing some sort of mild filler, such as cotton wool, in around or over the blocks you have placed in to reduce resonance within the cavity.

I just block mine so they cant pull up.. then put a shitload of spring tension on them.. and I'm done.

Lots of nice (and expensive) guitars only have a tremolo... but if you'd rather play with a solid bridge and you want a particular sweet guitar, that's the solution.

yes! i did it!
ok, i didnt have enough space in the back for a 9V battery, so instead i used an old gameboy advanced game instead (street fighter...so shite!). and on the other side i just used tightly packed card as the gap was amazingly small.
thanks for all you help, im off to get me some heavy ass gauge strings!

i have a half decent vintage "metal axxe" razon guitar. not great, but decent
im suprise with the amount of room in there, not very much at all
i could only just squeez (sp?) in that game
heres a pic of the trem cavity:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...01/DSC01431.jpg
i can pull back and push down the trem perfectly, no problems there.
