Fingers

Hey guys,
After a bitchin band practice of awesome hardcore punk and speed metal my index finger hurts. I think that its a tendon this isn't the first time its happened. Any suggestions? Maybe learning to play with my ring finger? Thanks for your advice.

Maybe you are making somthing wrong with ur index finger, play it to hard or something like that.
If it is really the tendon, u made a break until it was ok or you just played on? Perhaps, you just have to make a break til your index is healthy again.
I've ever played with my fingers (indey and middle) but never had this problem.

You think its a tendon problem? so its not a tip pain? try using your middle and ring finger more.. it shouldnt be too hard to get used too.

You might want to try some stretching exercises on your finger before jamming or playing. Try (gently) pulling the finger back (up) and holding it for a few seconds, then down. Repeat this and you should feel some stretching going on. If that doesn't help, you might want to see a doctor. lol

Cheers

It shouldnt be, but it could be..

Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.. it develops in bass players and celloists, etc etc.. rapid movements of the hand, doing the same thing over and over.. makes your fingers and wrists ache.. (something about the muscle slowing curling around your bone or something odd) and you get pains in your hands.. and muscles around your wrist and the forearm area..

Listen to subsonics idea 'excercising your fingers before playing .. do sorts of stretching with them, it could prevent this problem, and will make your hands feel more comfortable on the bass..

yeah just start using your ring and middle fingers while the other one heals. when it does, you should be fluent with 3 different fingers, depending on how long it takes for the index to heal

I have a similar problem but it's not as bad. When I pull my fingers back they hurt a bit. I don't think it's bad because it is never intense and it seems to be there all the time. I wonder if it would go away if I stopped playing for a day or two ....

I guess what I'm asking here is, how badly does it hurt?
