The Evolution is probably the tightest passive pickup I've ever played.
I have one in my RG7620 and it stays very defined on the B string.. not muddy at all.. I also have another RG7620 with an EMG 707.. which gets VERY muddy.
The 707 is basically an 85.

would the Evo Neck be a good match for a guitar with an X2N in the bridge?

I've never played an EVO in the neck.. Im not much of a fan of high gain pickups in the neck position.

i like evo's, and i agree with bls for the most part on the 707 emg, a guitar tuned that low doesnt need a pickup with to much lows or it turns to mush. the 7 string version of the 81 would be a much better choice.

Yeh, I've been meaning to change that shitty 707 out for a 81.. but all of a sudden it looks like EMG stopped making the 7 string 81's

Oh...well then what should I cram into my neck with the X2N? That stock pickup's really eh in terms of bass, and if the distortion were a little sweeter when I used leads, it'd be perfect.

just realised this applies to me as well, almost exactly the pickup combination i was considering.. What is wrong with high gain pickups in the neck? I could do with a bit more gain in my neck position pickups..
