it will have to be routed, which is probably expensive. if you really want that done make sure youo take it to a very profesional and quilified guy. i dont know what you consider to be a long time ago but if its an old guitar that you love the last thing you want is to have it fucked up because you saved 50$

a lot of routing. take it to a luthier if you really want it done. I'd just leave it the way it is, if i were you.

Or you can get a les paul mounted Kahler.. then you only need to drill two holes for the tailpeice.

Kahler's are excellent tremolos. Unfortunately, they do require routing but nowhere near as extensive as Floyd types do. Also your guitar would have to use the regular flat mounted base, not the Les Paul styled base Kahler as the LP styled base Kahlers hook around the string stay posts on LP styled bridges. Is your Dean a US made Dean or an imported one? If it is a US one I would send it to Dean and have them pull your bridge& studs, plug the holes, and redrill to set the correct angle on the bridge seeing that its a leftie.
Or you can see if someone has a Dean that is right handed and willing to do an even trade for your leftie(good luck on this one).
If you are really set on getting a tremolo, get the Kahler. #1 it is the least invasive on what is needed to install one. They are more expensive than a Floyd type, even a real Floyd. The Kahler 2300 coasts about $300, then you have at least a $100 installation fee. If you choose to go that route, send your guitar to Neal Moser(google Neal Moser). He is THE BEST guy I know to install and set up Kahlers pretty much on the face of the planet. The guys is one of those rare ultimately fair and honest luthiers you could ever hook up with.

Oh, holy hell yes! Their bridges can be either right or left handed, depending on the cam ( easy modification ). Kahlers do cost a bit but it is the best way to go if you want a trem. I have Kahlers and they are the best I have ever used. If I had an old Dean that is what
I would do.

How much different does a kahler actually feel? What can it do better then a Floyd?

Slight adjustment in hand placement. Kahler's feel lower against the body.
Second question. First big answer: wont send the whole using out of tune if you pop a string like a floyd will. You will go slightly flat. Warbling effects is easier, restringing wont take all damn day because you don't have to worry about messing with spring/string tension issues. Larger tonal range. You can set a Kahler up for a very very light action to a floyd style stiff action. Retain the body mass of your guitar, as only a roughly 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" x 3/4" deep hole needs to be removed from the guitar body instead of a hole all the way through the body. There are others but I'm at a loss right now.

you need a kahler system one....a compromise and half way between the two types of bridge, i have one on my 80's contempory jap strat, tis a good bridge
actually, after a quick search on google, im not sure whether the bridge was made by kahler but its definately called system 1 and was on many humbucking strats made by fender in the 80's.

If it doesn't have "Kahler made in the USA" on the top of it ( like all Kahlers do ) then it is a copy made in asia. They were being made against Kahlers concent and somehow those copies is what caused all Kahlers to stop being made in the first place. They look so close to a real Kahler that I find them on ebay being sold as Kahlers sometimes. They are made out of cast metal and not machined metal, like real kahlers, and I have heard that they don't perform nearly as well as a real Kahlers either.
