Bands with shred guitar and good lyrics
Hey, I m really getting into neo classical shred type stuff at the mo and i'm searching for a band that mixes both meaningful/philosophical lyrics with some really kickass guitaring and singing?

I would suggest death, and control denied, but you probably already know death. Death has to have one of the most philisophacle lyrics of shred bands..

Never heard of Winds
Typically, shred bands (like Cacophony) focus JUST on the guitars, so finding a great lyricist to go with it may not be too common.

Well, Winds is well rounded. Superb vocals, great drumming (Hellhammer), beautiful keyboards, and fascinating shredding. And existential lyrics.

Yeh, Cacophony dosen't have the best lyrics..
But the guitar say much more than any word can.

Some lesser examples to Winds:
Angra- Temple of Shadows: Great concept album about the crusades and shredding all around.
Ark- Burn The Sun: Some astral songs and some love songs, most of the lyrics are great. And with 4 members that used to be in Yngwie's band (Ark is MUCH better than Yngwie), you can expect some neoclassical shredding.
Dream Theater has good lyrics most of the time, but the way the lyrics are presented in Labrie's voice may not be attractive to all.
Evergrey has good lyrics...they have SOME shredding, but aren't really a shred band.
Into Eternity- Dead Or Dreaming: Get this.
Nevermore is a must.
And if you consider fantasy lyrics to be good, pick up some Rhapsody/Luca Turili. If you consider mythology lyrics to be good, Symphony X has CRAZY guitar work.

And I'm looking for a chick who is hot, brilliant, mellow, artistic, and doesn't nag. Good luck to both of us...
Kansas is about the only thing that even comes close to that description and I'm pretty sure you weren't looking for Kansas.

I doubt anything will be better than Temple, as I think they were more of a power metal band in the ago, whereas now they mix in a lot of prog. And I am a heavy prog fan.
