Anyway, I got it yesterday, it seems pretty kickass to me, but I'm still not totally sure, as Nile albums always take a while for me to get into. But once it happens:

I ordered the boxed set from the Relapse site for $30 which is way cheaper than shelling out about Ł25 for it over here. I'm amazed it got here just a few days after it's release date - I was expecting a 2-3 week wait. I'm going to by the normal CD as well and give the one that came with the boxed set to my brother (it's only in a flimsy cardboard case).

I haven't got time to tab for at least the next month (bleedin' exams!) but I'm sure Tim will do a few very good tabs in the meantime. But later in the summer, who knows - I might get some free time!

My sweet Lord, this album rocks!
Cast Down the Herertic broke my back into itsy-witsy-teeny-tiny pieces while I was on the bus! And that two minute solo kicks the Devil's arse back up to Heaven!
Whoever said this album sounds like Deeds Of Flesh needs to get their ears syringed - there's plenty of Egyptian flourishes to be devoured hungrily and there is much more variety.
My only gripe is that the drums are not high enough in the mix. George's blasting is as fast as a pair of sex-starved mongrels on their honeymoon but I can hardly here the pummeling toms that Tony made his own.
In any case, this album rules. Go buy it.

FAR better than Nephren Ka [the other Nile I have] This album rocks. Fuck, that fiery pits of whatever is the most fast complex song I've ever heard!

I take that back. I heard it on my hi-fi today and GODDAMN are those drums crushing?! Must've just been my mp3 player.
This album reminds me of a mixture of Nephren Ka and the slower stuff off In The Beginning.

Are you kidding? It's like the perfect combination of BSOV and Nephren-Ka, but mainly BSOV.

the question i kept asking myself is "does it live up to ITDS?" Through hours of listening to the album and pondering, i decided it doesnt matter. It's like comparing the different works of an artist... there is no real way to tell which is better or anything: you just know that both are masterpieces.

That sums it up perfectly, Andrew.
Tim: Let's just say it encompasses their whole output from the last 10 years! The interesting thing is that they have still evolved despite retaining a lot of their original sound. Very (no seriously, very) few bands are able to do this.

Yeah, I'll agree with that. Who else thinks Dallas taking over the main vocal duties was one of the best decisions Nile have made?

i brought my copy yesterday and i was mightily impressed, i think they have stepped up a level in everything they do, the guitar riffing is just sensational in my book and i think the new drummer fits right in and yes Dallas on lead vocals is awesome!
I've only had one listen but i found it a real good listen and I think Nile have got even better!

Jon played bass and vocals on AOTW, but left the band shortly after the album was finished.

Jon Vesano was Nile's bassist for four years and recorded AOTW as well as other albums.
The new bassiat is a 19 y-o guy called Joe Payne who will be touring with them.

His vocals are certainly different to most that I hear in the genre and they suit the music very well. I guess I still like Karl's very deep stuff better, but yeah Dallas' are pretty good.
In terms of fronting the band, Jon wins hands down. The guy is an amazing presence and will be sadly missed by this fan. I'm just glad I had the immense good fortune to see what I regard as Nile's strongest line up (Karl, Dallas, Jon and Tony) live in the flesh.
Speaking of Tony, how does everyone think George compares? I think he's equally fast but I liked Tony's style a little more, although I have to admit there isn't a lot to choose between the two. I think Karl & Co chose well.

So will I - that box set doesn't exactly fit into my CD rack! I thought the CD would come in a regular case with the box set but alas it did not.
