Morbid Angel - Heretic
(there isnt a thread like this any where else on the forum is there?)
Personally, i love this album. I think it's great. Why is this hated by so many people? Is it just comparing to morbid angel masterpieces or do you hate it in general?
Also, if you like the album, please provide an explanation why.

I love it. Since you asked for an explanation, I will explain. I love it because it rocks my socks. I love it because it whips a polar bear's ass with a belt. This album can rock and this album can roll. This album was a good heavy death metal release.

I think it's good, but doesn't top their previous works. Also, the way the songs are placed is a bit odd. 4 bullshit songs to end the CD? Well, not counting the 40 or so bullshit "songs" after that.

apparently those unnamed tracks had some kind of meaning
also i dont think the album should be called crap (by ppl in general i mean, not you) because of some extra instrumentals.i really like them. memories of the past and abyssous are awesome. i dunno why born again and drum check are on there, but i dont think that should affect how the actual songs as a whole sound.

drum check is sick though, and if you listen to some of those 40 songs, some of them actually have music on them

Some of it is awesome. Other parts the jury is still out on. It is my least favorite Morbid album at the moment, but I've only listened to it thirty or so times. I might like it more than Gateways as time goes on, but I doubt I would ever like it more than anything prior to that. The extra track shit bugs me when it comes up in my CD changer, but whatever. Morbid Angel still rules.

If I have one gripe with the album, this is it. I generally like MA's instrumentals, but it's extremely anticlimactic to end the album with 4 of them. That's just bullshit. I mean, if they were all in between the other songs, I'd be fine with that. Drum Check should be the last song on the disk.
However, the real songs are great. I generally concentrate on the best of an album, not the worst, and since the best of the album is extremely high quality, I tend to view the album as extremely high quality. This album definitely isn't as good as Formulas or Blessed are the Sick, but I like it more than Domination and Gateways. In my opinion, Morbid Angel have never released an album that wasn't, at the very least, very good.

The songs themselves are very good. Its just the dodgy production that ruins it for me. But yeah definitely some very strong songs on there- Cleansed in pestilence is very reminiscent of Altars stuff (blasphemy, lord of all fevers) IMO and God of our own divinity is just awesome.

ANY Morbid Angel album is fucking heavy old school death metal, and Heretic is no exception. I like it alot.

Morbid Angel's worst efforts still get at least 7/10 compared to normal bands. Heretic is not a sellout by any means so Morbid fans aren't going to slam it. It is probably a little too wacky for anyone unfamiliar with the band though which might explain the 1/10 crap.

I love Heretic. Criminally overlooked if you ask me, so much so that this could be MA's Divine Intervention. Somehow I doubt that Trey & Co will conspire to produce something as dire as Slayer did with Diabolus In Musica as a follow up though.
Yeah, it isn't "Altars..." or "Blessed..." but who cares? It's Heretic and it fucking rocks. Bring on the "I" album.

Probably something like "Invocation of the [something or other]" or "Infected with [whatever]".

Trey will probably be namin the next one as "Invocation Of the Continuum One". that title does make so much sense.

Woah, Kylito, that definitely outdid my Slayer best of title. Congratulations.
Invocation of ....'s a pretty safe bet. Their titles are somewhat imaginative, but don't start out that way at all.
The actual songs on Heretic rule so hard that Azagthoth's self-indulgent wankery would be forgivable no matter what. But if I'm going to hear more or less pointless instrumentals, it doesn't hurt that they're being played by Azagthoth and Sandoval. They're, um, pretty good. If there was a bassist on the album I'm sorry to have left him out, but apparently the producer had no such qualms.

I think they asked Tucker if he wanted to, but he wasn't interested - and was writing the lyrics, and felt that was enough.

Im not sure if i understood you right, but if you meant what i think you did, there was definitely a bassist on the album. Some parts can be heard very clearly, such as the intro of "curse the flesh". Look on the back of your heretic album case and it should say vocals/bass under steve tucker.
Again, sorry if i misunderstood
Also, i agree that born again (just a solo from gateways, why?) and Victorious March of Reign the Conqueror (umm....?) couldve gone, didnt really like those.

No, just the Latin (or more likely, the Latinized version of the English) word for irregular. We all know Latin is the language of the occult! Sometimes I tell my grandmother I'm a Satanist and then I rattle off all the scientific names I can think of to convince her I'm communicating with the devil. Then she tells my mother on me and we all have a good laugh. My Grandma is 100% country, superstitious AND Christian. We have a lot of fun with her and her with us. When I hang around with my Grandma, basically all we do is bother each other like little kids, except neither of us ever get mad for real.

Secured Limitations were with Trey on second vocals. Trey's a guitarist. That's the nicest thing I can say about his vocals.
Kylito, I can't remember what I wrote, actually. It was in response to that dumbass Pantera best-of title that included all of their post-glam titles in one, so I worked every Slayer album title into a ridiculously long title, a la the one you did just now.
And Steve took a while to get up there, but since then he's been as good as Vincent.

Since we were on the subject of the upcoming album, how do guys think it will sound? Are you expecting a lot from it (well, i mean more expectancy than usual from morbid angel ), or what?
TBH im not really sure, with david vincent back and tony norman joining the band, maybe trey will have some different ideas. Who knows?
oh and about blessed of the sick, i'll definitely be getting it...just as soon as my friend buys it

Hey, whatever it takes man. I would agree with Chris that it might well be the greatest death metal album of all time. I still listen to it very often and I never ever skip songs on it. I know I've listened to it at least ten times in row in my car on more than one occasion without even thinking that I should change it.
I don't know what to expect from the new album. Those guys always do what I don't expect, which is good.

Marino wasn't referring to the song though, he was referring to what the next album will be called.

Drum check was amazing. I personaly like the album... A lot actually. How could you not like it? it's old-school death metal!

There's some awesome polyrhythms going on as well - Trey was certainly very creative with Heretic.
