need help i have a prob with my amp?(buzz hissing sound)

it has like a hum(background noise) when it has distotion on either if i use the amps distortion or a distortion pedal. i tried unpluging everything from the power strip that its plug into i used a diffrent guitar it still does it theirs an effect on the amp that takes away backround noices that you can adjust but to completly make all the hum go away it doesnt sound as good it loses that deep base distortion that i like. so whats the prob and what can i do? well thanks

What amp do you use?

Well there are many reasons for noise, sitting near lights, computer monitors, tv's, anything that uses lots of energy will give you noise issues.

well... you could try turning off all of the electric things in the room except for the amp and see what happens...

if you're talking about a distinct "hum"... my money says it's a ground loop. shouldnt be to hard to fix. just make sure everthing is grounded properly.

if you're talking more about a "hiss"... get use to it. high gain rigs do that. some more than others.

if you're talking about feedback, once again, high gain rigs do that, but a noise suppressor is an effective band-aid fix.

going by the hum... you need to take your rig to the basics, guitar straight into the amp. if the noise is gone, you've ruled out the amp cord and guitar. if not, try several different cords, and guitars.. and if the problem still doesnt go away. it's the amp.

if it's not the amp, cord or guitar..... try each other piece of gear one at a time with a quality cord that you know is good. if using pedals, try testing with both your power supply and a battery. you should be able to find the trouble maker(s).

I have no clue...

I do know my cell phone makes my PC speakers hum horribly if it's too close to them. Even when not in use.

is all i know is my emg picks up alot of noises. one time i was changing the song that was on cause i was jamming to the songs playing them on beat and shit. and the remote makes some crazy noises when your pressing buttons on it right near your pickup, its weird shit. or when i crank my half stack up one time i was talking loud as hell and i could hear my self talking like it was a mic or some shit it was funny shit.

I would say you've got some problem there, possibly a grounding issue, maybe someone with more experience with EMGs could advise, because pickups aren't designed to be microphonic. They will however, pick up some electrical noise from the surrounding area

What pick-ups have you got, single coils hum/buzz like a cunt if you're near a computer or something. If I switch my coil tap to single it will hum but put it back to humbucker and it's perfectly quiet.
