Is it bad guitar 'practice' to only learn harder songs?

Ive been playing guitar for 1.5 coming on 2 years and I used to run through scales in books and such (the usual routine). Now however for a while, I stick to learn harder songs with parts I know which will increase my playing. Like just learned Necro-fermented for fast changeups, testament-eerie inhabitants for legato, etc. Or is this all bad practice and should I go back to the old routine again?

i would see that playing stuff you once couldn't play (i.e. practicing to play it perfectly) would be a good thing. I know that when I improve the most is when I finally master a riff i've been struggling with for a while. It gives me a new dimension to my playing and it makes me sure as fuck feel like i might actually be good one day.

actually thats what i do, it makes you want to practice more aswell, and once youve practiced all the stuff thats hard to play you find that by the end of it you can improvise at that speed and use some of the techniques while improvising with ease
