I think it makes sense that you would find women of your own race more attractive on a genetic basis. Sexual selection. Obviously there is a safe level. Where is the safe level? Different states have different opinions regarding how closely you can be related to somebody you plan to marry. OK, I was taking your theory to the extreme with the 'other species' remark, it wasn't entirely serious.

When I said races I meant colour/ancestry. My point was that since people of different ancestry (and possibly colour as a result) would be most genetically different, you were implying (in my opinion) that people would be most attracted to those of different ancestry (and as a result, possibly colour).
I maintain that in my experience this is not generally the case, and that you inherit gene influenced sexual preferences from your family tree.

yes, not all muslims are crazy terrorists. most arent, actually. the blacks in america dont integrate at all, they instead form their own culture, or actually more of an "anti-culture". i know plenty of people getting into all sorts of trouble because of the rap lifestyle, etc. is that a legitimate excuse to hate all negros everywhere? nope. but it is a fact that the "rap game" has caused tons of problems here socially. as for muslims, they are not a problem at all around new york rural areas. then again, why the hell would they settle here anyways

oh, and heres a small question. when i was in rome i saw a lot of Gypsies. these Gypsies were all the same color and appeared to be of the same culture . i didnt hear them speak anything other than broken english, but they most definitely were not italian. does anyone know what race or area of the world Romanian gypsies come from? they appeared middle eastern..

We have gypsies over here, too. When they'd check in at the hotel I worked at they always paid cash and they had to pay on check-in. You wouldn't believe the stuff some would steal out of the rooms.
My best friend's grandma was from Serbia and when we were kids she told us not to get too close to the road because the gypsies might get us. We thought it was funny until we got older and found out they were around here.

This town isn't real big, but we're pretty integrated just by geographics. The schools have always been mixed so I never gave much relevance to color.

Wally just moved into a place off base that belongs to one of his shipmates and the kid is Iranian. That should be interesting for learning some cultural stuff. Waly says he's really cool.

there are many thoeries on the origins of the Rom people<not to be confused with Romanians> the prevailing theory is that they come from india because that is what the language most resembles, thier language is hard to explain because its like english in which its kinda loosely patched together by other languages and is spoken differently in different regions. the "gypsy" name is when they entered europe on the tall tale that they were egyptians, so as to seem from an exotic place to ply thier trade. remember that language is the most important thing in determining ethnicity, not race, from a scientific point of view, when archeologist look at ancient cultures and determine where they came from and who they were they go by language, race doesnt figure into the equation. so when looking at gypsies they are a people defined by language and not race.

most gypsees are from countries like bosnia, romania, serbia, macedonia, those kinda countries. there's also some from poland, white-russia, the czech republic, it's mostly eastern european folks. and in Italy, most are from macedonia/turkey, as far as I could tell in Rome, which is a cool city to visit!

Couldn't comparitive DNA testing be done to see where a common link would be? If their could be modern as well as specimens from over the centuries?

yeah you could do dna testing to equate links between people and cultures far away, but however comparing language covers more ground, doesnt require state of the art technology and is more practical, gypsies are like jews, for the most part a stateless nomadic peoples,<until recently for jews> who emigrated everywhere, the language and customs bind them, racially speaking what constitutes a jewish person? or a gypsy? are gypsies in england the same as gypsies in ethiopia? what better links these people? thier racial dna or language? what costs less to easily find out

That's true. It would be cheaper, but unless there was written records in the language would historic research be possible? I suppose it wouldn't have to come from them directly, but someone else's writings about them.

LBXXX where the hell did you grow up? ive never heard of gypsies in the us.. they are very obnoxious in rome. for example, tehy would take pictures of you and try to make you pay for them, they would try to "give you" roses, they would put bracelets on you when you werent looking...etc

Usually it was in the summertime. They usually appearred to be white Americans, not to be racist sounding or anything, but the ones I encountered were. They were usually with someone who had a driver's license, but they didn't drive. Most were female, too. You could spot them by their unshaven legs and armpits and sometimes the smell, too. Either very patchouli or b.o.

I basically grew up right across the street from where I'm sitting right now although I was on this property most of the time. The girl I was friends with lives right next door. I'm sure she'd remember her grandma telling us that, too.


I was just thinking about that time frame. I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that there was a lot of baby selling around here in the late 50's and early 60's. Maybe since she was from the old country she thought of them as gypsies looking for kids to sell to adoptive parents.

The ones when i was little or the ones at the hotel? The ones at the hotel was anything that wasn't bolted down. They'd sometimes get a 2 bed room and strip one but put the pillows and spread on like it was untouched, but steal all the bedding and towels out of the room. Once they tried taking one of the pictures off the wall.

They were sort of like hippies I suppose, but our boss said they were gypsies.

I worked out there for over 5 years. That wasn't the worst I'd seen. That was just what happened with them.

The wedding party that managed to destroy a couple barchairs and trashed the suite was the worst I ever saw. I was in housekeeping then and it took a few of us over 3 hours to do that one room. It should have taken a half hour for one start to finish. They had extra charges for vandalism added on their bill.

Work in a hotel for awhile. It's definitely an experience. We had Jesus bathing in a bucket in the lobby that was there to catch water dripping from the air condioning unit. the cops took him away. Another guy walked in and over the couch and stood on his head for no reason. He did it for a few minutes and then left. Edgar Allen Poe checked in with a fake bird in a cage. That was cool. It turned out he travels around speaking at schools becasue one of my kids said he was there. But we had all sorts of 'interesting' people there. We even had the swat team after a guy who had holed up there. It was bizarre to see cops with big guns running around outside the building. The guy finally hopped into his car and took off. A cop I went to school with shot and killed him several miles away.

The hotel I worked at was an award winning Holiday Inn, too. Not some dinky unknown place.
