im having trouble playing this part of the chimaira solo:

E-15-14-13-12--------------14-13-12-11-------------
B--------------15-14-13-12--------------14-13-12-11

and it carries on in that pattern for a while

now the problem im having is that im not sure if im using the right type of picking for it and im having trouble quickly switching between the strings.
i keep fumbling when switching strings.
o yea, and im using tremolo picking to do that solo...is that right or wrong?

im also disheartened abit coz my friend said "omg, you wont be able to play that, you've only been playing for 6 months, i've beeen playing for 2 etc etc etc"
so now im not sure if i will be able to play it

any help will be greatly appreciated

If you practice it slowly first you'll be able to pull it off eventually. Tremolo picking that, isn't good discipline. After that try playing the solo to "Sweating Bullets" by MegadetH. Good Luck

try alternate picking. and a good exercise to get that down is:

also try hammer ons and pull offs.

D=down stroke
u=up stroke

That solo doesn't look to complicated. Just practice it slowly at first before you do it full speed.

What helps to learn riffs & especialy solo's, is to learn short 'phrases' one by one.

Practice slow, use your pinky, practice Up Down Up Down alternate picking. What song is this BTW?

I can barely use my little finger for shit.....quite frustrating.
It gets sore fast.....my other fingers can jam for hours....but that pinky....lil bastard!!!!

You dont use your pinky to do everyday things as much as your other fingers. It just needs to get some exercise and itll build up strength. Remember the golden rule. Practice, Practice, Practice.

I use my pinky all the time. When playing a chord like this :

I had that problem. Practice the chromatic exercise (-1234-2345-etc, and with string skipping), and learn the into to Metalstorm/face the slayer - by slayer (off show no mercy) it uses quite alot of little finger. It helps alot with you riffing if your little finger is strong.

a little advice, if its going to keep moving down the frets till it hits 0, dont use your pinky at all, simply alternate pick with 3 fingers and slide donw one then pick it, because thatl be how its meant to be played from the looks of it

thats simple as fuck. id probabably tremolo pick it or hammer on/pull off if i were u. just depends on how the artist played it. ive never heard it so i coudnt tell u, but i would say tremolo pick

well, only way to tell if its tremolo picked is by listening to the song

just try this riff in different ways, to obtain your speed.


For example:
E-15-12-13-14--------------13-15-12-11-------------
B--------------14-15-12-13--------------12-11-13-15

but better is to try a scale on the lower (1 - 12) frets, once you managed
that, you should try to start on the higher frets (12 - 21).

Be patient as always, just start slow for like a week... (5 minutes a day)
record it, or set it in guitar pro (which I do) then rise the speed every time, and try to play it with your guitar, just as long till you get the speed on guitar pro.

great and fast way to learn excellent solo's
