i'm searching for an economical way to ship an amp from the US to germany..
when i used the calculating tools of UPS and FedEx it said bout $350 for an head
does anyone know if there's a way to get it here cheaper?

for example, a peavey xxx head costs $999.99 at musiciansfriend.com
the same amp costs 1.245,00 € ($1574) at musicstorekoeln.de, which is one of the cheapest stores in germany
so the difference between the prices is about $575

i think stores like musiciansfriend.com don't ship amps to germany, but i could find a private person i know near L.A. who would probably help me get the amp here

if anyone of you has experience with shipping amps etc. please tell me if it's worth the effort to buy amps in the US

Well, I can't help you on shipping options, but here's some advice on shipping from the US to the EU.
If you ship something, you must pay about 25% on top of the price towards import duties and added sales tax. It doesn't matter if this person in L.A. ships it towards you as a 'gift', because this tax also counts on gifts that are more expensive than 44 euros.
You can buy not so expensive items and expect them to be ignored by customs, but if you ship something as big as an amp with "value: 1000 dollars" on the bill you can expect to be royaly fucked.

I once shipped a second hand Boss GT-6 over. In the end, it costed as much as a brand new GT-8.

are there any additional costs i would have to pay?
i don't really want to buy the xxx, for real, i'd like to buy the engl powerball head but didn't find any engl amps at music123 or musiciansfriend at all...

not only would shipping from america cost a shitload of money... but u.s. amps are ment for u.s. voltage and will not work in germany without some modding.

the german custom said i've to pay 4,5% custom-duty plus 16% turnover tax on imports
with all costs included shipping i get to $1390 when buying the amp in the us
in germany it still costs $1575

i just wanted to find out if its cost-efficient to ship an amp from the us and apparently it is, but i think it isn't worth the effort

Don't forget you have to pay V.A.T taxes on the amp + import duties AND shipment combined

Are you referring to the Musik-Produktiv website, or you have actually checked other dealers, checked ebay for sellers in Germany, tried to contact Engl etc?

just found a shop selling it for 1440€ ($1870)
that would probably the same price as in the us
