I'm sure this is like comparing apples and oranges, but what do you guys think are the major pros / cons of the two?

EL34's will break up earlier because their only 25w and 6L6's are 30w.

Do desire more tube saturation or more headroom?

I"m sorry but I don't really know the difference between headroom and tube saturation. Well, its pretty much self explanitory, but I'm sure there are more details to it than that. Enlighten me please.

Saturation determines how easily it is to ditort the sound, and headroom is the overall volume, kinda, am i right?

not so sure about the 25w, 30w thing... a triple recto comes stack with 6 6l6's and it's 150w..

they're about the same..

el84's and 6v6's are like half power versions of el34's and 6v6's... that's my take on it.. they just sound similar.

i had a peavey classic 50/50... instead of running 4 6l6's or el34s for the 100w, it had 8 el84's.

for a recto, i think el34's sound awesome...

listen to clifton's table full of giggles. he has an emg loaded les paul through an el34 loaded dual recto... not your super boomy/flubby recto sound, but tight and articulate high gain.

Aren't the power tubes set in push-pull mode, so 150 / 6 = 25, so i'd think that they'd be 25W, although there could be some ineffiency to make 30W tubes only give 150W after push-pull?

i don't know exactly what you're getting at...

but powertubes can have a certain range of wattage pulled from them... for example... the triple recto runs six 6l6's for 150w... whilst the deizel vh4 runs six 6l6's for 180w... or a dual recto runs 4 6l6's for 100w, while a 5150 runs 4 6l6's too, but puts out 120w.

volumewise you're not going to hear a difference.. but headroom and low end resonance is alot more noticable.
