Question What Amp will quench my thirst?

Hey guys

I have currently got a part time job and I'm gonna spend it all on one heck of an amp however I'm not good with amps, I need some advice on what to get.

Right now I have a Yamaha Guitar (I don't actually know the make, two humbuckers and one single coil though, pretty beefy shit), I have a Boss Metal Zone MT-2 Pedal and a Laney Hardcore mXd30 amp.

What I'm looking for is a really beefy amp, I would like to make my guitar sound really beefy like bands like Nile and System of a Down. However, whilst making my guitar sound like that, I would like to be able to play pretty cool solos, like the sound the Arch Enemy solos have.

Basically I'm looking for an amp that'll help make my guitar sound really immense and death-metaly but make solos sound awesome too. I only have £200 to spend at the minute and I don't really want anything higher than 50 watt as it's for home practice. Can you guys recommend any good amps? I hear Peavy are good for that kind of thing...

Cheers in advance to anyone who replies.

Daryl

First, i agree with the others, i think you need to look into a new axe before thinking about the amp

For the amp, if you want the deathmetal sound(especially Melodic death) and cool solos go check ebay or other auction site and look for a Peavey 5150 or 5150 II, If your lucky you might be able to find one of the combo models but i dont know if they go for 200£. The 5150 (+/- II) is as far as i know the most used amp in deathmetal. That and the Mesa/Boogie Dual rectifier but i think thats a little more than your budget will hold Some artist that i know use or have used 5150 are: In Flames, Arch Enemy, Soilwork and the likes of Göteborg death...

Hope that i could help and sorry for any spelling errors

We'll the Spider II's are slightly over that Price, and are pretty good will blow anything in the similar price range, and are versatile too so if you ever did need a van halen esque sound you have it with the twist of a knob more or less...

The guitar sounds like a Yamah Pacifica 112,or 212 argos used to sella Hum single hum version. very nice gutiars if you like it fine, just save up for another guitar later on, something likea DK2 would be good if you can work with a floyd Rose trem..

A good guitar will sound better through a good amp than great guitar through a crap amp...

To be honest I don't really want a new guitar yet. I'm happy with mine, I will one day but it's ok for now. I've grown attached to it. Thing is, on the head stock it doesn't say it's a Pacifica so I really don't know what it is apart from it being a Yamaha.

Also, apologies for putting this in the wrong forum, I didn't realise there was an equipment one. Thanks for the replies. =] Any more?

Edit: Been looking on Ebay and can't really see any combo things of this Peavey 5150. The ones I do find are too much for me.

Looks like an RGX series Yamaha. There are a few models around with HSH.

that aint a bad guitar dude, nice thin neck but could do with better pickups. Anyways i m from england and findin stuff like amps or whatnot which are good but cheap is fairly hard. I'd say save ure money, but if u cant be arsed or some other reason, look into buying a marshall v8100 head (u could prob also pickup a jcm900slx2500 if ure lucky) , a cheap crate blue voodoo or look into some laney stuff as that goes pretty cheap.

haha, I love my guitar, grown so attached. I will get another sometime, I just think an amp is a higher priority. I want a better sound. =]

Yeah at the minute I have a Laney, it's ok, I'm sure there's definetely better though. I have saved my money and I don't want anything TOO big. =] I want it to be for home practice and maybe gigs if I get a band. =] At the minute I'm looking at these Roland Cube 60W amps. Would you say they're good for gigs and stuff?

60W is barely enough to keep up with the drumkit(forget it, if the drummer plays agressively).

Here's an idea, save more money so you can buy a real amp later on. I understand why you would like a better sound right now, but truth is, you don't need it. Build up your skills, and when you've got yourself a band, buy a tube amp or something along those lines, so you can sound louder than the drums, and eventually play gigs with it.

it depends...

i gigged and practiced on a jcm 900 for awhile.. it's switchable from 100w to 50w.. i had it on 50w and dimed through a 1960a cab and it was the perfect tone and volume. and i was competing with a 5150 with a v30 crate bv cab, a 350w 4x15 acoustic control bass stack, a LOUD drummer, and vocals.

of course the part that made it possible was mostly the fact i was playing through a 4x12 cab, it wasnt a little 1x12 combo(though alot of little tube 1x12's are loud as fuck).

having more speakers is much more effecient than having more wattage. all other variables kept the same.

My friend 30w Marshall Artost 3203 can easily compete with the drums and my 5150.. Great amp BTW.

that beedy sound your talking about imo is just alot of mids and more power amp distortion rather than preamp. for that beedy sound io recommend any marshall. jcm 900. or even a boosted jcm 800. just keep looking used. if you can, try out the crate blue voodoo. i have the combo version and i love it. to my experiance the half-stack sounds better, of course the cab had much better speakers than my combo.
