Roland Cube 30 vs. Line 6 Spider II.

I'm having second thoughts on buying a Line 6 amp since I read another thread in this subforum. I'm considering either a Line 6 Spider II that has 75W @ $300 or a Roland Cube 30W @ $225. Which one would you suggest? For metal, obviously. I don't plan to be playing live anytime soon, but I hear that using a mic and a bigger sound system works just as fine.

The Line 6 seems like a better deal, but I hear that it doesn't have as much tone as the Cube? Please share your thoughts.

Also feel free to reccomend a different amp that is $300 or less.

Edit: I plan to use this in conjunction with an ESP EX-400 guitar, that's EMG 81/60's mind you.

I'd say Line6 because it's more of a real amp. I've heard that the cube isn't bad, but the Line6's got more goodies on there and more power and all.

Line 6 spider II. But than again. I like line 6 stuff. And IMO the spider II has nice distortion and some cool effects.

30 watts or 75 watts, if you're just going to practice at home it won't make a difference.

I would take cube

So 30W won't sound much weaker than 75W?

Someone that has tried out both amps(same exact models) please answer this> which has better distortion? I can't tell the difference between Line 6's "Metal" setting and the Cube's "R-Fier"(the Cube's so called "metal" setting just sounds like soft distortion with flanger or something, r-fier sounds better). I checked out what they sound like by checking out sound samples.

Also, which has a more deep bassy tone?

So far I'm starting to lean towards a Cube, mainly because of the price and because I won't be playing live or anything yet. It really sucks that I can't go and try out these amps because there aren't any music gear stores in my area.

Any experiences and detailed stories you can give me with these 2 amps? Thanks a lot for the help, mates.

Microcube? Is that 2W or something? It sais so on a review... I think I want something that sounds louder than my PC's speakers. :P

I don't plan to use this just for home practice, I know someone that plays drums and I occasionally go and jam at a friend's place, who btw has 100W amps.

I borrowed the spider II head a while ago and that one is 150 watts. But I think it sounds similar with the combo. But I kinda liked the Spider II. But I'm a sucker for line 6 stuff. It has good distortion IMO and a built in noise gate and gain booster etc. And some cool effects.

Plus the spider II has 4 channels and the cube has 2 I think ? Correct me if i''m wrong.

I never played the cube 30 so I don't have an opinion on that one.

I have had a cube 30 for over a year now and I fuckin love it. It beats all the other amps I've tried, even the bigger ones. It's got awesome tone, lots of power, and the R-fier sound on it fucking ROCKS! It's perfect for metal and sounds great when palm muting and pinching. I mean really, just the R-fier simulator on the Cube30 sounds better than any other amp in its range. The only other amp I might like better than the Cube30 would be a Cube60. In fact, you should probably get a Cube60.

Oh yeah, and don't worry about not being loud enough to play with the drums on a cube 30. That thing has a lot of volume for its size.

No! Get a Cube 60 so you can play louder, and also because the Cube 60 has output jacks that allow you to connect to larger speakers and PA systems for gigs. In the long run you'll be glad to have started with a bigger and better amp.

Like I said, I don't plan to play a gig anytime soon, I've only been playing for little over a year and I don't even have a band! $180 for an amp I'll be using for the next 2 years is pretty fucking sweet, I plan to get a +$1000 amp some time in the future, but this will do me just fine for the time being. Not only can I not shell out $350, like someone said: for me at this stage it will be useless.

Anyway, thanks for all the help.

Exactly, I think if he's gonna play at a gig, he should think about getting something better than a Cube...

Well excuse me for being a retard for inquiring what amp is a better buy. Wouldn't it be stupid to buy something for a hefty price when it's crap compared to something cheaper? Not from your point of view, apparently.
