BEADG or EADGC
I currently am tuned to BEADG, but I don't use the low B much. So am considering getting a 6 string set and ditching the low B string and tuning to EADGC. Can someone tell me the advantages of a high C?

Hmm, this is what i wanted to do when i got my first 5 string.. i guess it would be better for tapping, soloing.. another octave for you to play with.. try it.

I might try that someday too ...
But could that be bad for the neck? The different string sizes mean different tension, and the five string was designed for BEADG. Basically it would allow you to play higher stuff, which would be good for tapping and soloing like Tattered said. That would probably take a while to get used to.

I say do away with it. You can always stand in its former location if you need to make use of the perspective it gave you, but will benefit from the ability to situate yourself in different loci with ease.

So I would need a 6 string set of strings to do this right?
And it would be really cool, being in that I'm in a Jazz/Metal band with a lot of emphasise on the bass.

Yeah, you would need a six string set, unless your local guitar shop sells indivual bass C strings..
Jazz metal band? nice one! if you have any recordings now or near the future, please post them, id be very interested in hearing some stuff, that genre is very rare, but also something special..

I'm going to my local shop tomorrow, (my guitarist is the guitar teacher) I'll have to ask them.
Thanks for the support Tattered. I'll be sure to put some up if we record anything.

It was this precise dillemma that led me to buy my 6-string bass. The other problem I found with the 5-string when I changed tuning was that the strings were no longer tight in the nut, as the grooves are a set width to match the strings you're using. It wasn't a big problem, but I noticed the strings seemed a bit sloppier.
Cheers
