melodic death metal/metalcore
i have been recently digging on bands like extol, KsE, and trivium. can anyone reccommend some other bands that are similar, mix melodic death guitar work with the metalcore scream/sing vox.

i didn't think KsE had death type guitars...or trivium for that matter. Shadows Fall? Unearth? Maybe those bands. Trivium sounds more thrashish with the guitar work i think.

Try my favorite metalcore band, As I Lay Dying. Tim has some low screams and does the death vocals often.

If you like the scream of Trivium's Matt Heafy, check out Caphurnaum. They also feature Daniel Mongrain on lead guitar. They're more tech death but as I said, if you dig Matt Heafy's scream give them a spin.

Darkest Hour.. give them a listen.. definetly my favorite.
Unearth seems right up your alley
All That Remains is a great mix of melodic riffs and neoclassical solo's

Well then try "Distance is Darkness" and "Forever" by As I Lay Dying. Also try some It Dies Today for some clean vocals. Or you can go to http://hxcmp3.com

I heard this song by Mendeed yesterday and it sounded very similar to Trivium. You might want to check them out, Moonraven.

good metalcore:
between the buried and me, glass casket, TTEOTD, AILD, A Traitor Like Judas, Caliban, Despised Icon
shitty metalcore:
it dies today, the new Still Remains album (the EP was good, though), heaven shall burn, himsa.
try the showdown as well: www.purevolume.com/theshowdown - high screams, mid screams, low screams, death growls, and singing.

Yeah, try -Fragments Of Unbecoming
and...
-Cipher System
-Deadlock
-Winter Solstice
-Undying (old)
-Callenish Circle
-Beyond The Sixth Seal
-Nehemiah
-Neaera
-Callenish Circle
very good bands, some of these take more a sound metalcore, others a melo-death
try the newest cd of Dark Tranquility (Character), maybe you'll like it.

I've recently discovered Neaera. Not too bad in my opinion. Kind of an equal mix between Melo Death and Metalcore.

Check out 'Dimension Zero' dude...it's very melodic death metal and good screaming vox...I think it's right up your alley, if you want to check them out...let me know and I can show you where to get some good tracks.
(Jesper Stromblad started this band as a side project, and his guitar playing is very melodic, so that should give you an idea of what this stuff is all about. It's very dark and depressing too, like a mixture between brutal death metal and a little bit of black metal)

If you consider the vocals in hardcore punk to be either harsh or clean, I suggest you look into getting an ear examination.
Just one. One ear.

It just has to be said that it really does appear that people are taking genres much more seriously than the actual bands and their music which is really fucking disgusting.

But sticking to the point... It is a shame that people can't just enjoy music for what it is rather than that catagory it ends up in.
Yeah and the end of the day of course people all have different taste but to cast aside something due to some silly label that's been tagged on is a bit daft.

wrong again. anyone with half a brain can successfully identify a genre and enjoy the music if it is anything other than a half arsed job.

Heh i agree and disagree. I listen to technical death metal 90% of tech is utter shit. But i would rather listen to that than any black metal.
I also agree that if you like a band regardless of genre definitely listen to it.

I killed the prom queen.
started out a farly standard aussy metalcore deal, but their last album has really taken a turn to more of a death sound, still with breakdowns and other shit that is identified with metalcore but alot more technical ... I don't know how to explain it ... just look for them

Yeah genre to the extent of it merely being a guideline but I just hope people aren't going to pigeon-hole themselves into genres and saying for example :-"Stoner-metal that's shit !" then from that point on after listening to one band will disregard the entire spectrum of that genre.
