This has plagued me for a while. My friend tells me that die-hard Megadeth fans hate Metallica and Metallica fans with a vengeance. Theres a rival group of metalheads at my school that are always dogging me whenever I wore my Jump in the Fire shirt or my Metal Up Your Ass shirt, and these dudes had every Megadeth shirt I have seen so far. I thought maybe because I had said something that offended them, but a firend of theres told me that they dont like me because I like Metallica a lot [yeah, if you dont like the fact i like Metallica, you can rot]. Hell, they got offended because they found out I bought the remastered Peace Sells, But Who's Buying. Is there some sort of unspoken hateful rivalry between Megadeth and Metallica fans?

As far as your original question goes, old Metallica and old Megadeth both rule. Both bands have been pretty lame since around 1990 so I don't see where these clowns get off talking shit to you for wearing old school Metallica shirts. If they are wearing post-Rust In Peace Megadeth shirts ever then you should be the only one allowed to talk shit.

As far as a Metallica reunion goes, I don't think Lars is up to the task. He seems to be incapable of playing with authority anymore (not that he ever was that great), but a Hetfield/Mustaine reunion of some type would be interesting if they had a good drummer...

I listen to both bands...I think Megadeth is way better than Metallica, but first few albums of metallica's aren't that bad...Kill'em all is the best...but whatever Mustaine in both muhahaha.

My statement was with refernece to the musical embarrasment Metallica have become and that Dave Mustaine had an equal if not better career away from them with Megadeth. My point is that Dave Mustaine seems to forget this (and that he wrote some corking albums) and chooses to dwell on the fact that he was kicked out of a band 20 years ago. I mean he's had a good life, playing guitar, touring the world, getting free Jacksons etc it's not like he was homeless or living in abject poverty because of it.
I understand his anger/upset over how he found out about Cliff's death.

I love and enjoy both early Megadeth and Metallica and I am not on any side(nor am I petty enough to do so).

Both bands have brought me much pleasure...Megadeth however will always remain a fav between the two. Rivalry is a waste of energy. And when all the things like history...personal feelings between bands...accusations are said and done...the music remains and stands on it's own for us all.

Mustaine was only credited with contributions to Ride The Lightning and Call Of Ktulu. The rest was mostly written by James, Cliff and L**s with sporadic input from Kirk.

Whenever Dave is credited it means that one or more of the riffs he recorded and gave to James/Lars is used in the song, making them actually a lot more scrupulously honest than most bands. It doesn't mean he had much at all to do with the song in its completed version; anybody who listens to much Megadeth should notice that Dave doesn't structure songs at all like James and Lars do. For a while, in my opinion at least, they knew how to use his riffs better than he did, and it feels like the rise of Megadeth is a rise of Dave's ability to write songs and not just riffs and lyrics.

People who prefer one band to the exclusion or detriment of the other are blind in one eye and deaf in one ear, and are probably missing a testicle, too. There's a lot of beef, sure, but it's stupid beef and should be ignored by people more interested in music than in interband rivalries. Let the bands care about that shit if somebody has to; I've got all their good albums and that's all I care about.

I like old Metallica, I find Megadeth rather boring, I don't care if other people think Megadeth aren't boring, nor if somebody dumps on Melattica for any reason. I respect that Megadeth are all better musicians, Metallica has the publicity, but I think it's very childish, the little spats they've been having. I don't bother with holding grudges (except in extreme circumstances): 99% of the time, I don't feel they're worth the effort.

I remember in the early days of thrash there was some idiot sections who wanted to know 'who's side you were on' when it came to Metallica or Megadeth. Like it mattered! Stop trying to make metal into football, complete with hooligans!
I see on the recent Slayer tour in the UK, Slayer fans were fighting with Slipknot fans! Why? There are enough people outside of rock music who want any excuse to close it down and censor it with out the people who claim to be fans giving them added fuel by starting petty wars!
Every time a troubled kid takes daddy's gun to school and vents his frustration a metal album in his CD collection gets the blame! And that is not fair on the music we love. Fight oppression not each other!

One of the reasons I love metal is the ability for it to unite people from all walks of life and countries in one common activity.....the worship of the Riff! (This website is testament to that) The fact you can slam f**k out of someone in the pit and it's not malicious, you look out for each other and you can have a beer and a laugh about it afterwards with them! I ask you, what other things in this world can do that??????
