I know the usual, like diving trills and such, does anyone know any advanced whammy bar tricks? Ive been wanting to make more use of mine, but I only know the same old tricks!

thers something really cool at the end of Suffocation's "Pierced From Within" solo. he hits a note then bends the whammy around backwards i think and pushes down..it sounds like a lamb bleating or something. try and figure that one out!

i dont really know any "advanced" tricks but i know that if you dive then come back up and pull natural harmonics on the 3rd fret it sounds really cool... like what slayer does on war ensemble live. what im trying to say is, use harmonics and the bar for different stuff...
tapping with your left hand and diveing with your right hand at the same time is cool too...

Yeah, Terrance raises the whammy bar, then depresses it and lets it go so that it flutters, which creates that 'bleating' sound

pull the bar up and let it go, so the barkinda bounces up and down, it makes the notes sound a bit like ppprrrttttt sounds pretty col if u do it right, necraphagist uses it in some of their solos
there was a thread like this just a while ago, called TREM EFFECTS i think, check that out should be some more tipps tricks i guess
EDIT: what i discribed above is that thing from the suffcation solo he just does some more diving with itm and combines it,
like harmonic pull up, different harmonic, drop let go prrt sound
oke weird explanating, just go fuck around wioth it

try this: start at about the ninth fret on any string, hit the note and slide up the neck (slowly), but as you slide push the bar down at the same speed as the slide, the note will stay the same as you slide, then stop sliding and release the bar all at once, the pitch will shoot up suddenly. it sounds pretty cool. let me know if this doesnt make sence.

These aren't really tricks to put in songs or anything, but something to fuck around with that I saw on a site:
1. The motorcyle sound that I think Van Halen used to do. You put dist. on, you push down the whammy, then you hit like the 6th string and you raise the bar slowly, then repeat this same thing on the 5th. You're suppossed to get something that sounds like a motorcyle is accelerating and shifting up on the gears .
2. This one's something funny I saw on the same site: It's called the "Dying Pac-man", and you play the 12th and 14th fret on the 3rd string (not at the same time, but back and forth), while fluttering the whammy, to get sound like Pac-man is eating all those dots (works good if you use like flange or some other effect.). Then to make that sound like Pac-man died, hit like the natural harmonic over the 5th fret and fuck around with the whammy to change the pitch. This is easy to learn if you've actually played the game and know how these sound like.
I dunnno, I guess that's about it for screwing around with the 'ol whammy.
