another amp thread
i hate to post threads. i feel like i should just ask in another thread but o well.
the only way i know of Madison is a local band has one of their cabinets.it seems ok the speakers aren't of the brands i should be looking at but they seem to sound quite nice.
anyways, has anyone ever played the madison divinity head/half-stack?
reviews, though they are limited, say its good. one even claims that "it blows the 5150 away!" id play it if i could, most of us would, but thats why we come here, for good honest advise.
dont be shy post away!

ok i might just take a chance and get sumthin.not for a while, well a short while.i figure i could sell my amps and get a bout 800 dollars. thats gonna cover a new head and either new 4x12 speakers or a 4x12 or 2x12 cab.i figure around 500 for the head and 200 or so for cab.

A local guitar shop in my area carries a Madison Divinity half stack. To my knowledge not a single soul has tested it out in the 3 or so years its been there, myself included.

Melhart's Music in McAllen, TX. I'll see if I can test it out sooner or later, considering Houston is about a 7 hour drive away.

It's a piece of shit solid-state combo my friend was ripped off for a couple of years ago. Once I opened it and it was a disaster inside: terrible layout, leaking caps, noname reverb tank (seemed like someone had picked a piece of metal and folded it into that shape with hands) and crap noname 10" speakers. Wasn't much better outside, as half of the knobs weren't working properly. I checked HC a while back and there were very few reviews of it, and those were listed under the wrong section (IIRC). I was hoping someone would know this brand, to no avail. All the info I gathered is that it was an Italian company which closed down early in 80's.
Sorry for hijacking the thread.

My friend tried out the Divinity half stack (I couldn't personally, finals and all) and he said it was ok. As far as the distortion was concerned, he said that it was very cold and thin compared to my 5150. So I guess if you're into black metal, it would be a good buy.

ok...i know its been asked many times before, and im wary to ask but: what half stack or head and 2x12( quarter stack?) would you recommend for 800 bucks. im thinkin aboiut 500 for head and 300 for cab. how much do you think 4 new 12s would be as i already have a cab.

I can get very usable clean sounds with my 5150, hell, most of the time I just switch to my neck pickup and turn the volume on my guitar down and use that for cleans.. not even switching to the rythym channel.
Go play one if you can, the 5150 has a very different clean tone to it.

if you want clean tones from a 5150, get a 5150 II with a bias mod...

But what if you want the lead tone of a 5150?
Then your still screwed.
Peavey really should make a 5150 with an extra eq.. but no, they had to fuck around with things and create the 5150 II.

I had a few posts up here a while back...not about to dicide on what amp I wanted to get....I tried a bunch of diffrent amps, JSX, HD-147, XXX, 5150, 6105, Mesa Tripple and Mesa Double, just to name a few....Then TOTALLY on luck I decided to go with this amp that I had never played or heard of before....OMFG! This amp is Killer,.,...The tones are nice thick, Heavy and at the same time....very Clear as far as the notes go....I have yet to find a tone that I cannot get with this and the BBE Sonic Maximizer that i have running in the Effects Loop.....Just a word to all of those who have heard of the amp and never got any word on how it perfoms....Dude....Its one of the best amps I have ever heard....They did Take out the contour controls because they said that it was causing some issues with the tone at huge volumes. Below is a pic of me with my new baby!!!! I LOVE MY MADISON DIVINITY! The cab is a MAG-412 with symphony speakers.
http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/6827/hpim01540lu.jpg
Madison from what i know of is a fairly new company but they are sweeping the deathmetal underground clean. People have been tradining in thier ENGL powerballs for this damn thing....I now know why....When I first got it i though....crap this thing sucks....then i let my Cab Break in and get rid of the "new speaker crips sound" after playing loud for 4 or 5 hours...then It just hit me like a frieght train....god....this thing is killer. Here are the specs on the head:
3 Channel 100 Watt All Tube head
4 Electro Harmonix EL34 Power Tubes
2 Electro Harmonix 12AX7 Preamp Tubes
2 Electro Harmonix 12AT7 Preamp Tubes
Triple speaker outputs (4, 8 or 16 ohm selectable)
High and low gain inputs
Spring reverb
Effects loop in and out with slectable lvl boost
The Madison logo on the front lights up blood red when you crank this puppy
Elegance Channel:
High, Mid, Low Lvl and boost (the boost is like a TS-7 in the front of the clean channel)
Edge 1:
High, Mid, Low, Contour, Edge and Lvl
Edge 2:
High, Mid, Low, Contour, Edge and Lvl
Master:
Volume, Reverb
The Clean channel is named Elegance...and it is very elegant...every clean and snappy. Edge 1 sounds like a dual recto and edge 2 sounds like a tripple rectro. The boost on the clean allows you to get great blues and southern rock tones, while the edge1 is good for HEAVY Riffs and Rythem, And the edge 2 is a VERY hot lead channel that i also use for some rythem work Every aspect of this amp is VERY articulate. No matter how much gain you dial in you can hear every note clear as a bell.
Im running this with a BBE Sonic Maxmizer inthe EFX Loop and a Ibanez S1520BP with a EMG-81 and EMG-85 wired at 18-volts. And yes I was crouched down infront of my amp but it is still a beast....a standard size Cab but the head is HUGE!!!!
The whole Amp: Cab,Head and Foot switch was around 1700 but worth EVERY penny.
