Marshall and Peavey.

After searching this forum for like 15 minutes I've come to the conclusion that I need to start a new thread for a specific thing....

One day, after I get money, I plan on buying a half stack. Should I:

a) Peavey all the way
b) Randall all the way
c) Marshall all the way
d) Mesa all the way

Mesa is of course the most expensive, right above marshall. Peavey is the least expansive from what I gather, and Randall, I don't know what the fuck Randall is. I hate the line 6 sound cause it's puny and weak with wayyy too much highs. I need to go from clean to crazy BOSS distortion with an Ibanez rg at high gigable ranges.

anyhoo, if a half stack consists of a head and a cab, and that's loud enough for a good sized gig, what's the worth in getting a full stack? Or, rather, what is a full stack? Just more than 1 cab?

if it were just those either marshall or mesa maybe a peavy 6505, but yea dont limit yourself to only those guys, an H&K triamp would cream over those

a full stack is one head with 2 cabs

Dude! Randall RM100M is the shit! All tube, bias test adjustments built in, 100/50 Watt, 13 different preamps ( that can each have different preamps tubes ), MIDI in/thou, 3 channels, Paralel/Series FX loops with wet/dry control, ...I could go on and on. It isn't a very advertized amp but it has balls. It can give you a Mesa recto sound with out all the noise and sponginess.

There is both! The RM4 rack mount stuff even lets you assign different power amp tubes to any given 4 channels or mix them.

H&K triamp?!?!

Well, like I said about the line 6, that's what I hate. I want like sepultura(beneath), or Old man's child (pagan) type sound. Not too much bass cause that'll just mess up the sound and make it either muffled or that crappy gurgle underneath. But I want thick, and not too much crunch or the sound'll be destroyed. And to remind, I'll be using a BOSS me-30 (the blue/black one) pedal.

you have more options than mesa marshall, peavey and randall....
shop used bro....

check out other amp makers like rivera, hughes and kettner, ashdown, engl, framus, soldano, ect...

i have a h & k triamp now and it's SOO much amp i can hardly stand it. i never thought i could get an amp so complex in sound... i still havent found all the tonal capabilities. when i'd play other people's triamps, hear bands with triamps,ect... "i was like that amp is the bomb! i need one!"... now i'm like... "ok i have a few sounds i like from it, now what the fuck am i supposed to do with the rest of it?"

you should check one out.

i have a rivera tbr-1m on the way... we'll see how that works out for me. it's more of a marshally type amp with a fendery clean channel.

yeh, enough about me...

how much are you willing to spend exactly? and what are you looking for from your amp?

as far as halfstack vs. fullstack... i own 3 4x12's, so technically i could full stack it all i want, but i don't, i play a half stack. why? it's more than loud enough(were talking turned up to 5 for gig's and practice) and i can move it myself. i can comfortably carry my cab up or down a flight of stairs on my own... but two, aye, more trouble than it's worth. especially when i'm just going to have the soundguy yell at me to turn it down so he can mix me better.

I will have one soon... as soon as I can convince Mrs. Soulinsane that it will make me Ozzy's next guitarist. It isn't cheap. A music store here has a RM100M head and the RM4 rack stuff. I brought my Ran in there to try it out and it just kicked the shit out of the Mesa's I tried. I played it for nearly 2 hours. I was sweating by the time I was done. I did a full show. I just didn't want to stop playing it sounded so nice. The amp just fucking rocked. I could get just about anything I wanted from it

Edit: I found some sound clips on the Randall webpage. They are very close to how it really sounds from the preamps I used.

Full stack is well worth it for sound and projection characteristics.

(Since a "half stack" is just one cabinet and there is no stacking involved, it's kind of a stupid name.)

Well, I don't wanna spend $2-5,000 bucks if I can help it on this whole thing....Besides a half stack, I need to buy a mic amp as well. I assume some clubs and shit have PAs and speakers to borrow, but ya know....it's nice you have your own......Ooo oooo ooooo, and a Senn. evol. wireless system....well then I'd be set.....

xdx, those rivera tbr's are nice, but the SL versions are way better if you play metal, the m's are not hot at all. I allmost abought an SL ages ago but then I decided on the powerball.

yeh, i'm not expecting it to be a brutal as the triamp...

but i'm getting a hell of a deal, these things go for like $700-ish used, at the most. but this one has newish tubes, and is off of the origional production line. AND he's throwing in a 12 space rack case(not cheap) and an emg 81-85 set...
and yeh... i couldnt pass it up.

if i don't like it, i'm either going to mod it,trade it for something else, or sell it and buy something else.

i'm expecting a "jcm 800 on steriods" and a good clean channel.... so if the tone is good, a gain mod or boost pedal might be in line.

I know. The samples on the web sight don't vary much from preamp to preamp ( I think they used one recorded signal for each guitar and mixed it through the different preamps ) but if you play on it in real life there are huge tonal differeces between the preamps. Plus you can replace the individual preamps tubes in different preamps to get a more custom tone from them. I will have this amp!

2 per preamp + 3 more preamp filter tubes in the chassis. You can have 3 preamps in the RM100 at once ( 4 preamps in the RM4 ) so thats 9 preamps tubes + 4 power amp tubes = 13 tubes total in a working head ( 15 in the rack RM ). All Midi controlable

ha, just like the triamp.. 2 tubes per preamp. 2 buffer tubes, and a phase inverter. plus 4 power tubes... 9 preamp, 4 power.. 13 total.

except the triamp can't swap out for different preamps. but with 3 totally different 2 channel preamps.. that's flexibility, nothing to complain about.

all midi controlable aswell. AND a built in redbox. and reverb.

where as the randall has the option of swapping out each preamp for another one.. but they're only one channel each. so you only get 3 channels at a time.
