trem effects
most of you guys obviously use
a tremolo bar no matter what song you do your bound to use it.
so i thought why not ask this.
how do you get crazy sounds and effects with the trem arm
this is mostly to floyd's.
like i only know of one and i dont know how he does it
its joe satriani's signature trem trick
where he picks a string by the pickup and makes that squeal sound
stuff like that.
anyone know of anything else
i really wanna learn some killer tremolo tricks.
any help is welcome

i know a nice thingy..
like hit a hrmonic pull up the bar and then let it go, dont bring it back, just let it gop back on its own.... werrm how the helll am i gonna explain this..
what i mean is just pull it and release it so the bar bounses up and down (imagine ur bout to shoot an arrow out of a bow), u can get some flipy stuff with that
this is how the diminished to be solo by necrophagist ends (last note)
it kinda sounds like a rilli fast vibrato.. errm just try it out just dont be to nice to it cuz it wont work then
sry bout the crap explanation as always
EDIT: maybe this is more clear..
pull a string away from the fingerboard and let go, just remember to THAT with the trembar and not the string
oke that sucked aswell sry

There's some thing that Vai or Satch used to do called 'down the lizard's throat', or something, where you pick a note and slide all the way up the neck, and gradually depress the whammy bar so that, regardless of the sliding, you always hear the original note, and the sliding gives a crazy, almost gurgling sound. It takes a lot of practice to get perfect, but it sounds awesome when you nail it

I have no idea dude, I don't own that DVD
If I get the time tomorrow morning, I may record it and post it up here. I haven't done it for a while so it may take a bit of practice to be able to do it again :P

since this is on the topic of trembar. Does using it detune your guitar really easily? I've been told it has and so I fear using it cuz I really dislike having to tune all the god damn time.

Using it excessively will weaken the strings at the bridge joint and will result in minor tuning shifts and premature string breakage.

Only if you're not using a locking trem. The guy who told you that obviously hasn't heard of Floyd Rose

shit, I came here to make the same topic.
the only thing I can add to this is moving the bar slowly up or down whilst trilling or playing a patern with your left.
or, depress the bar completely, form a chord, strum the slack strings, then really slowly release the bar. it sort of slides in to tune. it sounds quite good, and you get the best effect with a major chord, but you win a prise if you can use it in a metal song.

I owned a guitar ( Warlock ) with a Floyd Rose ( Licensed Under, an illegitimate one ) and I found myself never using it. I believe it was because that tremelo unit was so terrible.

I just thought of another...
1. drink 16 gallons of esspresso coffee...
2. fret a note...
3. touch the trem arm.

You explained it quite well.
I'm not a whammy bar person....but do love picking up others axes and using theirs from time to time and yep.....hitting a harmonic and working that whammy....you get some really wicked sounds.

Depressing the bar, picking a high harmonic and pulling the bar up sounds good as well

I have enough fun just doing Dimebag like squeals kind of like the squeals on Cemetary Gates. Another cool thing is tapping the bar as sliding up or down the neck like on Van Halens "Ain't talkin bout love". Theres a ton of different cool things to do with the whammy bar.
