A preamp is what the instrument reaches first, it boots the signal so the power amp can use it, and it gives most of the colouration of the sound. The preamp section is where you get all your controls such as gain, EQ, vol, reverb etc.

well, you should only trust your own ears... i normally go buy popular opinion to a point. if i hear enough good about something, i'll take an interest in it and try to own it or play it. and from there it has to pass the test.

imo, engl anything is at least ok sound quality. if not excellent, whilst the only marshall preamp worth buying imo is the jmp-1. and i'm guessing since you're using the metalzone, you don't have a jmp-1.

under $500 is a steal though.

i have a 9001 preamp now, wich is nice sounding for rock but not close for metal.
and since an mt2 sucks and the engl preamp isnt that expensive, i might aswell get that, i cant try em out, its like u order u buy over here.

i just read the manual of the e530 and it sounds pretty good to me.

i just want a high gain sound, without using some crap pedal for not too much money so i see the engl preamp as my choice

the 530 may not have enough balls for you though, although im in no position to judge that, im just going by what other people say.

i may be interested in one, seeing how im sure it could get pretty brutal with a sonic maximizer and an eq, and maybe a compressor

i just want sumtin thats affordable and better than what i have now, i dont feel lik egetting a marshallcuz im not rilli a marshall fan soundwise

check rocksolidamps for some good clips...

it might not exactly be a powerball as far as brutality... but remember he's playing a metalzone through a marshall 9001.

the e570 is supposed to be the preamp section of the SE head. it's alot more money than the 530.. but seriously, if you get one, you'll see and hear where that money went.

the 570 has so many more features...

the e580 is also amazing. has even more to it then th 570.
