us heads/reast of world heads

dumb question maybe but, since usa runs on a different power wattage thing than the rest of the world are heads that are sold here made differently or biased differently?

Yeah, you can get a power converter, or convert the head to work with other "wattages" (?).

I think that a lot of older heads have switches to select what mains power you are running from... If you don't want to lug a power adapter around, you can get the power transformer inside the amp switched..... the transformer in there may already be ok to use, you just have to connect different 'tappings' to step the voltage/current down/up respectively.

the voltage is what is different. the u.s. is about 110-120v-ish... other places like most of europe i beleive use about double that. and so on... some heads like my triamp(that is made in germany) can be switched to european power with a simple mod on the back of the amp and a new power cord to fit the sockets.. others need somewhat extensive modding or power converters.

I think you just need to switch/mod the Power Transformer other than that theres nothing else necessary.

it would be nice for a universal sytem all across the globe.... but that would be so much more work than simple modifications on the specific equipment you need.

not like i'll be touring europe any time soon.

Seems most higher end amps have a switch to adapt to different voltages around the world. I remember people on my ship taking electrical stuff into some ports and just frying the power supplies when they plug them in. I seen people completely let the magic smoke out of their Playstations while in other countries.

yeah, we've got 3 pin sockets + a ground lead on most sockets, which is good for amps (duh, less hum and no danger for power surge and shit)

our power is 220v and it's like that everywhere in Europe, we all have the same sockets here, it's great! most people here don't have surge protectors/rack riders in their rack because shit never happens on the power grid here

Not only the voltage is different but also the frequency of the current. In the us it's 50Hz and in Europe it's 60Hz.
Some friend of mine kept saying that if i plug my guitar in a US powered amp it will sound different compared to the european one. That's bullshit. The transformer on the amp takes the AC from the power grid and changes it to DC. They sound the same regardless of the origin of the power grid.
