I'm pretty sure that was me.

6 string sweeps are easier than they sound. Do them slowly and work your way faster. Make sure you aren't fretting them, but rather playing the notes one at a time and not letting the others ring. I don't really know what other advice I could give you other than practise.

Vital Remains - "Dechristianzie" has some good 5 string arpeggios for beginners.

Right from John's tab:
Code:

Due to my peculiar tuning ( A E A E A E ) I'm not required to sweep to play arpeggios. I just economy pick two notes per string to achieve the same arpeggios.

Low to high, using ZW 60-10 GHS strings : A E A E A E.

Its my "standard" tuning. I arrived to it by trying to find a way to detune, but with keeping the high E. Basically you have the full range of a 7 string guitar, in Drop-D ( low B dropped to A ), within the confines of a six string.

I can get some very strange reactions bringing my guitar into a music store to demo equipment. Even stranger when someone picks up my guitar and tries to strum a chord. I've got this story :

One time this guy who was a total moron, picked up my guitar and started twisting the tuners, even after I explained to him that I keep my guitar in a "special" tuning. "What the hell are you doing to my guitar?" "Dude, I'm fixing it. I'm going to play 'Walk'." "Then bar at the 5th fret. Its open note is A, so your D chord is at the 5th fret. Pretend the 5th fret is "0" " "Dude, that's not how you play it, the tab said ... " And he proceeds to play Pantera's "Walk" in A, telling me confidently that that was the correct way to play it. And as it turned out, the person had been playing guitar for a year and a half .

keep the pick angeled not like how u would trempick but more down or up (going down, the pick kinda bends up to the low E and for up the pick bends kinda towarts the high E) thats how i sweep atleast ,and put some pressure on the pick so it rilli hits the strings but give it a smooth motion with ur wrist like if ur like sweepign the string hehe i just foud out wherre sweeping comes from.. think of it as painting a wal or sumtin, keep ur wrist loose.

i know i know.. i suck at explaining but im still right

no thats cool man
perfectley good explination

with sweep picking.
do you down pick all the way down to the
hi e string then when you reach that do you do an upstroke with the pick.

---------------------12-17-12-----------------------------------
-----------------13---U----------13-----------------------------
-------------14---D---------------D---14------------------------
---------14---D------------------------D-----14-----------------
-12-15---D------------------------------------D----15-12-------
--D--D-----------------------------------------------D--D-------

or is this wrong.

I just downstroke it and then hammer on and pull off the 17 and 12 respectively.
