Push - Pull Pots/Knobs

Can someone please tell me what these do? It would seem that they make some sort of noise gat by changing the frequncy phase of the pu's but I'm not sure.... Wtf do they do?

Sorry if it's a dumb question but I I've never claimed to know much about guitars, just how to play them

Thanks

I think that by using push pull pots and clever wiring you can coil split your humbuckes, switch phasing or set serial/parallel mode . Handy if you don't have a mega switch or smth.
It could be handy if you are a tone freak or if you want to jump from humbucker to single coil mode with one push of a button.
Ah yes they're not that cheap . Stewmac sells them at about 10 bucks a piece . I say that by looking at a normal pot which is just $2.73.
