Position playing?

I think that I have a serious problem. When I'm improvising a guitar solo, I am playing in the same spot of the fingerboard. If somebody can give me some advice, I am very thankful.

it all depend's on what key the rythm your playing in.
either by another guitarist or just in your head,.

if you play in the key of A for e.g you basically use standard scaled in that key
and mix em up.

-----------------------------------8-10/12-----------------
----------------------------8-10----------------------------
--------------------5-7/9-----------------------------------
---------------5-7------------------------------------------
--------3-5/7-----------------------------------------------
--3-5--------------------------------------------------------

or this

--8-7-5------------------------------------------------------
----------8-7-5----------------------------------------------
------------------7-5----------------------------------------
------------------------7-5----------------------------------
------------------------------7-6-5\3------------------------
-----------------------------------------5-------------------

these note's can involve anything you want
picnch harmonics bend's artificial.
after you know the note's in a key it's all about imagination from there.

I try the same but i learn the first part of the solo and get fed up with the rest then i sometimes come back to it and try again but it just ends up being left. Right know i know 1/2 the solo to Fucking Hostile, Mouth For War, Hangar 18, Enter Sandman, Master Of Puppets and Seek & Destroy.

Well, you know the scale in one part of the fretboard, right? And you know how one fret on one string is the same note as another fret on another string, right? Then you can move your scale around to any place on the fret board. I'd suggest you start ripping it up in one part of the fretboard, then decide "now I'm going to move over there" and then you play your way to another place on the fretboard.

each key has 7 diatonic positions. Memorizing each position has been helpful to me because then you know where every note in the key is (position wise). this makes for easy diagonal runs, which will give you an edge over lots of other players. just look up modal positions on google.com or something and im sure youll find something.

Yes, that's what I meant.
