First song you learned
I think we can all recall when we started playing, so what was your first? Mine was "Plush" by Stone Temple Pilots

Does this count as a song?
The VERY first thing I learned to play was the "Barney Miller" sound track. I didn't even own a taperecorder, so I had to learn it by ear day after day as the show aired until I got it. Years later, someone pointed out to me that I had tuned my bass wrong, and it was actually played in "F", not "E", so I had to transpose the whole damn thing. Oh well...
The first actual song I learned was Exodus - A Lesson in Violence, off the Bonded by Blood LP (yeah, that's right, I said LP, I'm fucking old!!!)
Cheers

I know I'm gonna sound like a chode, but Type-O Negative's Black No. 1. Hey, it's the only friggin' song I heard at the time where the bass really stuck out.

Hehe, that's the one of the first songs I learned starting out on guitar, besides Metallica.

It's really hard to say which song I learned first, since I technically never learned an entire song until I had been playing for several months. It's more like "what riffs did you learn to play?"
Having said that, here are some of the things I started with:
Pantera: Walk (the main "easy" riff) - someone had a guitar mag with the bassline for this. I didn't know what tuning was yet, or pre-bending either. I thought it sounded a little odd ...
Ozzy: Crazy train intro ... enough said
Megadeth: Peace Sells intro! There you go Metal Thrashing Mad ... only I couldn't play it properly, obviously
Dread and the Fugitive Mind: I could get most of it, except for the fast part. Naturally I was sloppy all through the song
Disconnect: Having not develloped the ear for bass, I was playing the guitar part from a guitar tab ... still fun though
Legend of Zelda: The song that played in the levels in the original NES game .... couldn't play the 5/4 part very well though ...
Iron Maiden: Can I Play with Madness - only lately have I went over that one again and realized how horrible the tab was ...
The Wicker Man: That was good practice for 3 string power chords.
Haha what a bloody mess. It took so long to develop the feel of the instrument. I don't think I'll start an instrument from scratch ever again - I'm comfortable with bass thank you

Iron Man and Smoke On The Water don't count for me, cuz well, you know.
The first REAL song I learned was Opeth-The Drapery Falls.

Unlike all of you, I couldn't play Rage and Pantera from the moment I first picked up a bass.
I started playing 5 years ago, and the first song I learned was Weezer's Hash Pipe, an INCREDIBLY easy song. Needless to say, I've gotten better since then.

well, my brother played guitar before I got my bass. And I tried often to play some intro riffs of pantera on his guitar. So it was one of the first things I could play on my bass!

Black Sabbath - War Pigs (still learning it)
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Those are the first two songs I learned, which was about a week ago. I "borrowed" my friend's bass, since he does not play it much at all, and pick it up and started playing it.

I was a guitarist that eventually wanted to play bass for recordings. Mine was either Metallica- Anesthesia, Led Zeppelin- What Is And What Should Never Be, or Cradle Of Filth- Her Ghost In The Fog(with the neat little trippy bass solo).

Good old nirvana, come as you are was one of my first songs.. probably 3rd or 4th, but its good stuff to get you into a rhythmic mindset, playing along with basic stuff like that.

thats true, but grunge really sucked ( in my opinion), and destroyed 80s metal. And I love 80s and power metal ( not quite as much as death or thrash) but grunge killed that music errrrrrrr

Real 80's music (Read: Metallica/Megadeth) wasn't destroyed by grunge. Metallica albums still debuted at #1 and Megadeth got #2 with Countdown to Extinction. Grunge simply washed away cross dressing and bad music in general. It brought the music back down to earth. I can enjoy any Stone Temple Pilots/Pearl Jam/Alice in Chains much more easily than 80's metal anyday.
