yeah cubase can sound very amateur like if not done perfectly....beleive me my band has recorded via cubase and i am not happy with any of them no matter how long we mixed, re-did guitar lines and vocals etc. Get pro tools man - will definitly sort you out

To run Pro-Tools the best you should have a computer almost solely devoted to it. And since a Mac is the industry standard for professional multimedia audio and video work Macs are better. They are more stable for high ram demanding software such as pro-tools and professional grade 3D modlers and animators. You don't NEED a Mac but i will un much better on a mac.

I don't think Digidesign even develop an XP-compatible version of Pro Tools; last I checked, the downloadable version was only 95/98/ME compatible

basically the more you spend on your protools system, the better it'll be.
one of the local bigshot studio's has a $74,000 protools setup. amazing.

Pro Tools, in a professional environment, runs on it's own DSP hardware that Digidesign manufactures. Theoretically you can run any soundcard with Pro Tools and it should work fine
