Im getting a new head soon. I play alot of thrash (vio-lence, artillery, holy terror, TestAmenT) but also shred and alot of death metal. Im deciding whether to get the Ampeg Vh-140 head or a peavey XXX or somethin else. With the ampeg vh140 tho, everyone talks about em just as if they are godly for death metal. Can those things produce smooth lead tones/thrash sounds?

yea but thats the thing, everyone keeps on saying dying fetus but surely the amp can do more. I personally don't like the triple xxx, the tone goes to utter crap at high volume, im just wonderign what people think of beyond metal into other metal genres as thrash.

If you don't want the VH-140c let me know where it is . They're awesome for Death Metal (Suffocation also used them back in the day too), but I've also heard they get a good Pantera-esque sound with an outboard EQ. Actually what I found funny about your post was that Suffocation now uses the Peavey XXX.

Most definately a modded XXX cause the sound of one of those becomes pure shit when the volume is high.

is the Marshall Velvestate 8100 head any good?
